Our Story
The acronym HGB is extracted from the owner’s name, Helen Grace Botterill with her business associate and sales marketing manager Mr. Joven De leon. The business started as a hobby, grow more as demand increase and began to discover how to process fresh mushrooms.
Prior to engaging in mushroom production, Mrs. Botterill is already a fan of mushroom products. She even tried to produce Volvariella volvacea (also known as paddy straw mushroom or straw mushroom), yet it was unsuccessful. Through Social Media and Youtube, Mrs. Botterill had the interest again to go into mushroom production using the oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) variety. She learned to tap government agency like PhilRice & DA and began to attend training and seminar not only in mushroom production but the whole course of Organic Agriculture. From then on, she learns to produce more mushrooms, where she also faces the hardship in marketing the harvested product and incurred losses. However, that scenario leads it to go into the processing of fresh mushrooms into a crispy mushroom. Mr. Joven De Leon, her Marketing Sales Manager, tried to market the latter which turned out to be more salable. The HGB Mushroom Farm continues its operation, began the expansion of growing house and accepted new market.
