With the onset of the summer season, the Health Services Unit issues this Summer Health Awareness Advisory to remind the BulSU community of the increased risk of common illnesses such as cough and colds, measles, chickenpox, diarrhea, cholera, dengue, and bacterial conjunctivitis (sore eyes). Elevated temperatures may contribute and accelerate the spread of infections due to dehydration, unsafe food or water, and mosquito proliferation.
Members of the BulSU community are advised to monitor the following symptoms:
โ€ข Fever
โ€ข Cough and colds
โ€ข Redness or irritation of the eyes
โ€ข Diarrhea or vomiting
โ€ข Itchy rashes or blisters
โ€ข Body aches and general weakness
To safeguard personal and community health, please observe the following preventive measures:
โ€ข Drink adequate amount of clean and safe water
โ€ข Ensure food is properly cooked and hygienically prepared
โ€ข Eliminate stagnant water to help prevent dengue
โ€ข Practice regular and proper handwashing
โ€ข Remain at home when experiencing symptoms
โ€ข Keep immunizations up to date
For BulSUans experiencing symptoms or who may be at risk of summer-related illnesses, please coordinate with the Health Services Unit of your respective campus for proper guidance and consultation.
Let us work together in maintaining a safe, healthy, and resilient BulSU community this summer. Stay safe, informed, and vigilant, BulSUans! โ˜€๏ธ

Many people think gum disease only affects the mouth โ€” but its impact can extend throughout the body.

Periodontal (gum) disease is more than bleeding gums or loose teeth.
It is a chronic inflammatory infection that allows oral bacteria and inflammatory mediators to enter the bloodstream, influencing multiple organ systems.

Scientific research has linked untreated periodontal disease with:

๐Ÿ”น Cardiovascular disease โ€“ increased risk due to chronic inflammation

๐Ÿ”นDiabetes โ€“ a bidirectional relationship affecting blood sugar control

๐Ÿ”นRespiratory diseases โ€“ aspiration of harmful oral bacteria

๐Ÿ”นRheumatic conditions โ€“ inflammation-related joint involvement

๐Ÿ”นNeurodegenerative disorders โ€“ including associations with Alzheimerโ€™s disease

The mouth is not separate from the body.
It is a gateway to systemic health.
Maintaining healthy gums through professional dental care, daily oral hygiene, and early periodontal treatment is not cosmetic dentistry โ€” it is preventive medicine.

Celebrate smart, celebrate safe!
Iwas paputok โ€” torotot at ibang ligtas na pampaingay na lang.
Huwag hayaang maglaro ng paputok ang bata, at umiwas sa illegal fireworks.
Uminom nang responsable, at huwag magmaneho kung nakainom.
Protect your barkada, family, and community.

Letโ€™s start the year na payapa, healthy, at walang aksidente!โค๏ธ

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a significant public health concern worldwide. It can progress to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a stage where the body became highly vulnerable to infections and diseases. Despite this, it is important to emphasize that HIV is manageable, and individuals who are diagnosed early and receive proper treatment can live long, healthy, and productive lives.

In commemoration of World AIDS Day, the University Health Services, in partnership with Bulacan State University - Gender And Development Center and Republika Community Center by Usbong ng Bulakenyo Inc is strengthening its commitment to raising awareness and supporting the health and well-being of our campus community. As part of this global observance, we will be offering FREE and CONFIDENTIAL HIV TESTING on campus on December 01, 2025.

Through this initiative, we aim to provide accessible, safe, and stigma-free testing services to our students, faculty, and staff. Participants will undergo a brief assessment, pre-test counseling, rapid HIV testing, and post-test counseling conducted by trained professionals. All procedures and results will be handled with utmost confidentiality and care, with appropriate referrals provided when needed.

We encourage the entire university community to take part in this health service. Knowing oneโ€™s status not only empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their health but also contributes to a safer and more aware community.

For inquiries or further information, please reach out to us through our official page. Your health, privacy, and well-being remain our priority.

If gums bleed while brushing, itโ€™s like your skin bleeding when touched โ€” a clear sign of inflammation, not โ€œbrushing too hard.โ€

Bleeding gums are an early symptom of gingivitis, caused by bacterial plaque that irritates gum tissues and weakens the fine capillaries beneath. Healthy gums never bleed โ€” even slightly.

When left untreated, gingivitis can advance to periodontitis, where infection damages the supporting bone. This can lead to gum recession, loose teeth, and even tooth loss โ€” often without pain until itโ€™s severe.

The solution isnโ€™t to brush harder. Itโ€™s to get a professional cleaning (scaling), improve brushing technique, and floss daily. Once the infection subsides, the bleeding stops โ€” and thatโ€™s the real sign of gum health.
