Dry vs. Wet AMD: What’s the Difference

There are two types of Age-related Macular Degeneration:

🔹 Dry AMD (common): The macula slowly thins and tiny deposits called drusen form. Vision loss happens gradually.

🔹 Wet AMD (less common but severe): Abnormal blood vessels grow under the retina and leak fluid or blood — causing rapid vision loss.

Knowing the type helps your ophthalmologist choose the best treatment plan.

How Ophthalmologists Diagnose and Treat Retinal Detachment
