Promoting Thyroid Awareness is to increase public understanding of thyroid disorders, which are common yet often under-diagnosed.
Over time, It has gained global recognition, with healthcare providers, hospitals, and advocacy groups from locals, nationals, and internationals. The advocacies include but not limited to promote screening, share educational resources, and encourage conversations about thyroid health. Through these initiatives, this helps highlight the importance of early detection and proper treatment, especially since thyroid disorders can significantly affect metabolism, heart health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life if left untreated.
Let's stay vigilant when it comes to health!
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) joins the nation in observing Goiter Awareness Week 2026, an annual campaign aimed at increasing public awareness on Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) and promoting proper nutrition for optimal thyroid health.
Goiter is a preventable condition, primarily caused by inadequate iodine intake, yet it remains a public health concern affecting individuals across all ages. Left unaddressed, iodine deficiency can impair growth, development, and overall well-being.
This year, the NNC calls on individuals, families, communities, and local government units to take proactive action by ensuring adequate iodine intake through the use of iodized salt, consumption of a balanced diet, and regular health check-ups. Strengthening nutrition education and awareness is key to preventing goiter and other iodine deficiency–related disorders.
Together, let us work towards empowering every Filipino to protect their thyroid health and achieve overall wellness, as we support the shared vision of a healthier nation free from preventable nutrition-related conditions
