🤰 During pregnancy, the cervix acts as a barrier, staying firm and closed to protect the fetus and prevent infections.

As labor nears, the cervix softens, thins (effaces), and opens (dilates) to prepare for childbirth. Contractions during active labor further aid dilation, allowing the baby to descend into the birth canal.

Once fully dilated (10 cm), pushing begins, or the fetal ejection reflex may occur, facilitating delivery. The cervix is vital in supporting pregnancy and enabling childbirth.
