Mr. Christopher Rey Nacua (Research and Innovation Specialist) recently participated in UNLEASH Philippines, joining 150 Filipino changemakers in a week-long, fully funded Innovation Lab. Held from September 19 to 25, 2025, at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, the event brought together global mentors and facilitators to support local innovators in their journey towards creating sustainable solutions for their communities and beyond.

Mr. Nacua proudly represented the as a SEMI-FINALIST, aligning with one of this year’s thematic track: Health Equity and Biomedical Innovation. His recognition marks a significant achievement that highlights both his dedication to transformative research and CDU’s growing leadership in advancing equitable health solutions.

UNLEASH Philippines serves as the inaugural stage of the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF) Launchpad, an initiative led by the Royal Academy of Engineering UK. The program is designed to empower Filipino innovators who have the potential to address some of the world’s most complex environmental, economic, and societal challenges.

The DOST Region VII - Cebu Innovation Hub, led by iHub Manager Mr. Rino Dominic Cabungcal, visited the University on September 23, 2025 for a collaborative meeting held at the CDU Boardroom.

Welcomed by the University President Dr. Philip Anthony Larrazabal, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Enrico Gruet, and Vice President for Administration Prof. Jerome Coligado, together with the Head Dr. Emmalyn Cutamora, the meeting focused on re-introducing the Cebu Innovation Hub and exploring potential joint initiatives that promote health innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in the region.

Launched in December 2024, the Cebu Innovation Hub is a flagship initiative of DOST Region VII aimed at creating a dynamic and collaborative space for startups, researchers, innovators, and industry partners to accelerate innovation and inclusive development across Central Visayas.

CDU has officially secured its first-ever Utility Model (UM) grant for the project, “Process of Producing Liquid Hand Soap with Bigfin Reef Squid (𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢) Ink”, granted on August 8, 2025 by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Bureau of Patents.

This 𝘪𝘯𝘬-𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 UM advances sustainable soap production by incorporating unique marine-derived ingredients and encourages their broader use in hygiene products. | 𝐑𝐑𝐌

Following the successful conclusion of the SIBYA 2025 Stakeholders’ Research Forum, the CDU Program DAN-AG team, led by Dr. Brian Denney and Prof. Jacklyn Risia San Gabriel, were honored with the opportunity to meet with Hon. Pamela Baricuatro (People’s Governor, Cebu Province) and Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan (Consultant for Health and Hospital Development) today, September 11, 2025, at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

During the meeting, the team presented the proposed expansion of Program DAN-AG for a healthier Cebu, shared its vision for significant community impact, and humbly sought their guidance and support.

We believe this dialogue marks the beginning of a partnership rooted in our shared commitment to health equity, evidence-based policymaking, and community-centered innovation. By working collaboratively with the Cebu Provincial Government, we aim to advance research on helminthiasis among schoolchildren, with a focus on identifying and addressing key environmental and social risk factors. Through Program DAN-AG, we envision a future where locally generated data drives sustainable, science-based health interventions, improving the lives of vulnerable populations and ensuring that no Cebuano child is left behind in the pursuit of better health and well-being. | 𝐑𝐑𝐌

The CDU College of Medicine successfully hosted its 8th Stakeholders’ Research Forum today, September 4, 2025, held at Ampi 513 and online via Google Meet. With the theme, “Research for Change: Driving Community Health Development through Multi-Sectoral Partnerships”, this annual forum serves as a platform to introduce students to the research priorities and agenda of various stakeholders, as well as to the current medical landscape of the Central Visayas region.

The hosted the CDU-USA Research Lecture and Collaboration Meeting on August 29, 2025 at CDU RM 412 in alignment with the newly formalized academic partnership between CDU and USA. Key components of the agreement include the establishment of student and faculty exchange programs to promote academic mobility and cross-cultural learning, as well as reciprocal access to USA’s specialized laboratory facilities.

Representatives from the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, Department of Biology, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Department of Medical Technology, Department of Radiologic Technology, and Department of Physical Sciences presented their respective research frameworks and programs for Dr. Saludes’ critique and recommendations.
