𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲

Andy Pino has gained confidence to drive more safely and has seen more productive days. Cataract surgery transformed his vision and life for the better.

In his fifties, Andy began noticing subtle yet troubling changes. He was experiencing blurry vision in his right eye. He also observed some difference in his left-right reading and distant visions.

Tasks that once felt simple and routine at work became challenging. Long hours of computer use triggered severe headaches.

Night driving became a nightmare with its blinding glare from opposing vehicles striking before his eyes.

“The shadow of danger and accident has always lurked around the corner every time I drove in the evening against the opposing headlights of cars coming my way,” he remarked.

Eventually, Pino took a big step forward. Convinced by his lovely daughter, he underwent Cataract Surgery at UCMed.

“It was a very unforgettable experience. It was my first time undergoing a major operation. The warm-hearted nurses and staff have eased the palpitations,” he shared.

The entire experience provided him with reassuring comfort, especially with Dr. Bryan Tan’s cool and confident commanding presence and with the expertise of the medical professionals who assisted him.

Andy confirmed that the procedure ran so smoothly, and he felt at ease. There was no pain at all, giving him relief after the successful operation.

“I can now extend my focus and concentration at work on my computer. I have now gained back my confidence driving and maneuvering with ease at night, even against the most harsh and unforgiving cars flashing their fog lights heading towards me from the opposite direction.”

What seemed minimal at first can anytime become a turning point, which can either disrupt or enhance the quality of life. What is certain is that taking immediate care of one’s eye can make a real difference.

The UCMed Eye Center is open for consultation Monday to Saturday, from 8AM to 5PM. Any procedure that may be needed can be scheduled thereafter.

The Province of Cebu has recognized the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) and its president, Ms. Candice Gotianuy, as Healthcare Heroes.

Gov. Pamela S. Baricuatro, together with her health consultant Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan, conferred the recognition during the “Ato Ang Sugbo” Healthcare Heroes Appreciation Night on February 13, 2026, at the Capitol social hall.

The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) formally rolled out the PhilHealth GAMOT Program following its official launch in Cebu on Feb. 17, 2026, at the Provincial Capitol.

Through the UCMed Kalusugan Center, PhilHealth members enrolled under YAKAP may now avail of at least 75 essential medicines for free, within the ₱20,000 annual consumable limit per member.

Patients simply need to present a valid GAMOT prescription issued by their YAKAP healthcare provider at the UCMed Pharmacy.

Filling the air with love and hearts filled with care, UCMed celebrated Heart Month and Love Day dedicated to health, awareness, and appreciation.

Guests participated in the heart health talk and free cardiovascular screenings, while also enjoying simple sweet treats and activities prepared to make everyone's day extra special.

The activity was a great reminder that caring for your heart is one of the best ways to care for yourself and the people you love.

𝟑𝟏 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐄: 𝐔𝐂 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝, 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬

It was more than just another workday at the Maritime Education and Training Center (METC) campus in Mambaling, Cebu City, when they rolled up their sleeves, their fists gently clenched, not for recognition but for lives they may never personally meet.

A UCMed team mounted the mobile blood donation in partnership with UC-METC, UC Community Awareness, Relations, and Extension Services (CARES), and the UC College of Medical Technologists.

Some 31 employees of the University of Cebu (UC) took a quiet act of heroism, providing life-giving blood for those who would be most in need, especially in emergencies.
