: Filipino physician Dr. Sandra Navarra of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery has been named among the world’s top 2% of scientists for 2025, according to a ranking by Stanford University and academic publisher Elsevier.

Navarra, who placed 169,887th with 116 publications and 1,060 citations, was recognized for her research in clinical medicine and rheumatology, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She earned her psychology degree from the Philippine Women’s University in 1975 and her medical degree from UST in 1980.

In 2021, Navarra was named one of Asian Scientist Magazine’s Top 100 Asian Scientists. Her 2014 paper, “Treat-to-target in systemic lupus erythematosus,” published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, remains a key reference in lupus research and treatment.
