Manila Doctors Hospital on the Global Emergency Medicine Stage
From December 10–13, 2025, the Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) Department of Emergency Medicine proudly represented the Philippines at the 13th Asian Conference on Emergency Medicine (ACEM) in Dubai, reflecting and reaffirming MDH’s growing influence and leadership in the global emergency medicine community.
MDH’s commitment to academic excellence was showcased as four of our DEM residents - Dr. Christian Ed Ciencia, Dr. Maria Isabella de Jesus, Dr. Emilio Fernandez, and Dr. Anna Zenaida Victorino - presented their researches to an international audience of emergency medicine specialists, highlighting the depth of clinical training and scholarly work fostered at MDH.
On the same platform, the Manila Doctors Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine (MDH DEM) took the lead in shaping regional and global conversations in emergency care through the first-ever Basic Emergency Care (BEC) Summit. This landmark summit gathered emergency medicine leaders from around the world to share country experiences, implementation status, challenges encountered, lessons learned, and motivations for sustaining WHO–ICRC–IFEM Basic Emergency Care programs in their respective countries.
Participants also shared narratives on the application of BEC in diverse contexts and settings—including mass casualty incidents, humanitarian response, and areas affected by conflict—as well as strategies to strengthen collaboration in basic emergency care training. The summit was spearheaded by MDH DEM consultants under the leadership of Dr. Pauline Convocar, Dr. Marjorie Cruz, and Dr. Elmor Valdez, reinforcing MDH’s role as a driver of innovation, capacity-building, and global collaboration.
The event carried historical significance for the Asian Society for Emergency Medicine (ASEM), as a formal leadership transition took place during the conference. The ASEM President’s Medal and Scepter were ceremonially transferred by the outgoing ASEM President, Dr. Pauline Convocar (Chairperson of the ED Services of MDH), to the incoming President, Dr. Rasha Buhumaid, underscoring a seamless continuation of leadership within the organization.
This gathering of leaders from across Asia emphasized the collective commitment to advancing emergency medicine in the region- an affirmation that despite differences in geography and resources, emergency physicians remain united in their mission to deliver timely, compassionate, and high-quality care.
Manila Doctors Hospital continues to lead, inspire, and shape the future of emergency medicine—locally, regionally, and globally.
