Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy for KIDNEY STONES - Staghorn Calculi

- 52y/o Female Patient with left staghorn Kidney stone 7cm (large kidney stones almost occupying the whole right kidney) presented with right back pain and blood in urine.

- a procedure used to remove kidney stones from the body when they can't pass on their own.
- a scope is inserted through a small incision in your back to remove the kidney stones

Here's a more detailed explanation:

- Percutaneous: This refers to the procedure being performed through the skin.
- Nephrolithotomy: This means removing stones from the kidney.
- How it works: A small incision is made in the back, and a tube is inserted into the kidney. Special instruments are passed through the tube to locate, break up (if necessary), and remove the stones.
- When it's used: PCNL is typically used for larger or more complex kidney stones that are not easily removed by other methods like shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) or ureteroscopy.
- Recovery: PCNL is generally considered a minimally invasive procedure, and recovery time is relatively short compared to open surgery.
