I got 6 new diabetic patients (5: type 1 diabetes and 1: type 2 diabetes) during this ECQ period.

Do you how many times in a day they have to monitor their blood 🩸 sugar?
Minimum of 3, some 4x a day- others 8x a day . But during sick days, I advised them to monitor every 2 hours. Imagine the pain during (frequent) finger prick 😩.

Recent years, some companies develop a sensor to monitor blood 🩸 sugar. The sensor automatically reads blood sugar from the cells just below the skin.
(So easy and you can check your sugar anytime of the day)

Why is growth so important?
A child’s growth is more than just how tall he or she is. Growth is an indicator of their overall health and well being.

Checklist: if you answer “yes” to one of the questions, your child needs an endocrinologist...

- is your child shorter than their peers or classmates?
- is your child shorter than you or their siblings were at that age?
- was your child born small for gestational age (small)? - (maliit ng pinanganak)
- does your child wear out their clothes before they outgrow them?

Please see (1st picture) our guide for normal growth- called the “rule of fives”.

Reasons why a child may seem to be growing slowly...
1. Some simply grow slowly but catch up as they get older
2. Poor nutrition
3. Certain medical conditions (heart, kidney, liver disease)
4. Hormone deficiency (thyroid or GROWTH HORMONE)

Pictures (2-4) are the measuring tools use for accurate height.
(P.S. if you want to have this tool, we have [few] in my clinic- just message through messenger for info.

The Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) recommends first dental visit of your child == when first tooth erupts (or between 6 -12 months old).

How to protects your child’s teeth ...
• before teeth came in - clean gums with clean, damp cloth
• start brushing with a small, soft, bristled toothbrush and a very small amount of toothpaste (the size of a grain of rice) when your child’s first tooth appears. Use a pea sized dab of FLUORINATED toothpaste after 3 years old
• prevent baby tooth decay. Dont give a bottle of milk or juice, sweetened liquid at bedtime or during nap
• limit the time your child has a bottle (5-6mins)
• help your child brush his or her own teeth until 7-8 years old
• limit foods that increase tooth decay

Remember the antibodies production from infection?
This is same principle of vaccine.
Vaccines are given to produce antibodies then you will have “memory cells” finally you will be protected from infection.

Flu vaccine is given yearly (6 months old and older) from February to June (the least before the end of October)
Why yearly?
- Influenza virus has different strains (protein)- flu vaccines are released after a year to keep up with rapidly adapting flu viruses
- antibodies decline overtime

There are several TYPES of flu vaccines.
There are people who SHOULD NOT get flu shot... ASK YOUR DOCTOR

AN expert on infectious disease on Wednesday said that inoculations against influenza and pneumococcal diseases provide protection from the severe complications of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV) Director Dr. Lulu Bravo said the vaccine for flu as...

If your child is going to the toilet a lot, has increased thirst, is more tired than usual or losing weight, it could be a sign they have Type 1 diabetes. If not diagnosed early enough, Type 1 Diabetes can be fatal. Don’t delay—- if your child is experiencing any of the 4Ts, visit your doctor immediately for a test.
