Statement on Using Milk As Substitute For Tuberculosis Medication
23 May 2025

Amid misinformation about the health benefits of drinking milk to combat tuberculosis, the Philippine College of Physicians (P*P) and Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) Council on Tuberculosis would like to clarify that tuberculosis is a disease entity caused by: Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is transmitted through airborne droplets between people.

Active TB disease, with susceptible strains, can be cured by a combination of a 4-drug regimen: isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol given over a span of 6 months. Milk supplementation supports bone health but is not an alternative to TB management.

Delay of treatment can cause spread to other organs and other people and may even lead to death.

Dr. Jay Angelo Jumagdao – Third Place Winner in the nationwide Dr. Adrian C. Peña P*P Medical Quiz Contest Grand Finals, competing alongside residents from Philippine General Hospital and Manila Doctors Hospital.

Dr. Joshua Jason Dadural and Dr. Priscilla Jean Umengan – Finalists for Most Outstanding Research in the Residents-in-Training Meta-Analysis Category for their study, "Effect of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists on Clinical Cardiovascular Outcomes of Patients with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction: A Meta-Analysis".

Dr. Ervin Espinosa and Dr. Lucky Joy Alcabedos – First Place Winners in the Post-Residency Analytical Research Category for their research: "Diagnostic Accuracy of Respiratory Rate-Oxygen Saturation (ROX) Index for Outcome of Extubation in Adult Patients who are Mechanically Ventilated at Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center" — an outstanding contribution to critical care and respiratory medicine.
