Nako! Ang mga sunog ay kaliwa’t kanang nangyayari lalo na sa mga magkakatabing bahay at ngayong summer eh mas umiinit ang weather! 🥵☀️

In the Philippines, naitala ng Bureau of Fire Protection ang 13,029 fires mula noong January 1 to December 26, 2022 (Andaya, 2023). Nearly 2,000 fire incidents recorded so far since January 2023 .This latest record ay 21% lower compared to last year’s numbers, which was at 2,520 fire incidents. (BFP, 2023) 🔥🚒

The Philippines’ capital city, Manila, has previously witnessed a number of man-made structural collapses. Several notable events include the following from:

The Ozone Disco Fire,
The Ruby Tower and
the recent Quezon City Building collapse

These incidents demonstrate the value of strict adherence to safety and building code requirements, appropriate maintenance and inspection, and the requirement for accountability for those in charge of the design, building, and maintenance of structures.

Have you heard the tea about the oil spill that happened recently? Read the details below as we spill them to you, fellow teatalkers! 🫖

The sinking of the Princess Empress, which carried around 800,000 liters of industrial fuel, resulted in an oil spill that harmed the livelihoods of fishermen and harmed marine life in the vicinity. On February 2, 2023, it sank off the coast of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. 206 persons were injured or became ill as a result of the oil spill, with some having chest pain, dizziness, abdominal pain, fever, coughs and colds, ingestion, and inhalation. Over P136.542 million in aid has since been distributed to affected communities.

Shocking right?!? 😱

Thanks to the Philippine Coast Guard for their clean-up efforts in Pola, all traces of oil have been removed, with no oil visible on the sea or on boats, no underlying oil layers in pits excavated into the shore, and no oil debris.
