Restoring a broken tooth with established good gum health before installing zirconia crown.

After dealing with the tooth infection that we treated with root canal therapy, we proceeded with her zirconia crown.

In order to restore the tooth, we did the following:

> Root canal therapy
> Fiber Post placement
> Core Build up
> Zirconia Crown installation.



In our clinic, we educate our patients on how to prolong the span of his/her restoration so that expense of the patient will be kept low.

Pimple-like areas on your gums may be a sign of infection.

The only question would be, what causes this infection?

It is common that you attribute toothache with tooth decay (caries). While this may be true most of the time, at some cases, it may be because of PERIODONTAL DISEASE.

An accurate diagnosis is always the key.
✅ If it is
Caries, then remove decay and restore / tooth extract / root canal therapy
✅ If it is
periodontal disease, then consider it treated with periodontal measures or tooth extraction.

We did
> Scaling and root planing
and
> Bone grafting
on this case as the patient does not want tooth loss.

Recall appointment was done.

When pus has no other area to escape from, it needs an area for it to be relieved. Your dentist may need to incise an area to relieve and release the accumulated pus inside the gums.

This infection spread toward the gums from a simple tooth decay.

Incision and Drainage. Root canal therapy will be done in the next appointment.

Start this new year with clean teeth.

The darkened teeth on this patient may be attributed to his use of betel nut for the past 27 years.

Betel nut has been used by most Filipinos in the early days, and they have shown properties which may discolor teeth.

Much of its use has been attributed to making teeth stronger when ironically it causes the opposite.

Interestingly, they also have carcinogenic properties which is why betel nut use is not recommended by dental practioners.

Direct free hand temporary resin was placed on teeth with on going root canal therapy.

After the resolution of infection on decayed teeth, fiber posts and zirconia crowns will be installed.

Root canal therapy and restorations are considered long procedures in dentistry, as these kind of treatments entail long term recalls. It means, cases may not be finished in a single appointment.

Commitment from both the patient and the dentist must be understood before proceeding with the treatment.

In this case we used a 3 units porcelain fused to zirconia to replace a missing tooth and an old porcelain fused to metal crowns.

Zirconia crowns / bridges are onw of the best option to replace a missing tooth structure that can really mimic your old teeth.

Restorations may fail at its margins and contribute to further decay that may be unseen.

A trained dental professional may be of help in this kind of cases. That is why it is important to conduct periodic check ups with your dentist.

In this case we replaced an old filling which already has a decay underneath. Thorough cleaning was done and was restored to mimic how the tooth was like before it got decayed.
