Children begin to lose their baby teeth at about 6 years old. The first adult teeth that arrive are the molars, which erupt from the gums at the back of the mouth without replacing any baby teeth.
At the same time, the roots of the baby teeth at the front of the mouth begin to weaken as the permanent teeth grow within the gum.
Eventually, the tooth roots become so weak that the baby teeth fall out, leaving room for the new adult teeth to come in.
This process of teeth exfoliation doesnβt always happen in a usual manner.
That is why, it is important to schedule for a routine dental visit for the dentist to monitor the sequence or the timing of extraction or removal of baby tooth.
As baby teeth are guiding path for adult teeth coming out, sometimes a dentist needs to pull out the baby tooth even if it is not wobbly, in order for the supposed adult tooth to come out or be erupting in the right path/ position, avoiding retention of baby tooth, which may result to adult tooth erupting somewhere else. Such as in the photo shown.
