⁉ IS DIABETES HEREditary?
💥According to WHO, diabetes is not a contagious disease but can be hereditary. If a parent has diabetes, there is a high chance that the child will also have the disease.
1️⃣ GENETIC RISK OF TYPE 1 DIABETES
If both parents have type 1 diabetes, the rate of inheritance for their children is 10-25%.
The father has type 1 diabetes, the rate is 6%.
If a mother has type 1 diabetes and gives birth before the age of 25, the rate is 4%.
If a mother has type 1 diabetes and gives birth after age 25, the rate is 1%.
People with type 1 diabetes and immune disorders, poorly functioning adrenal glands, thyroid disease... the rate is 50%.
2️⃣ GENETIC RISK OF TYPE 2 DIABETES
Both parents have type 2 diabetes, the rate is 50%.
If one parent has type 2 diabetes before age 50, the rate is 14%.
If a parent has type 2 diabetes after age 50, the rate is 7.7%.
📣 These ratios may change due to external factors (toxins, food...) and living environment. Everyone can change their lifestyle and practice healthy activities to reduce the risk of developing diabetes even though their body carries mutated genes that increase the risk of the disease.
