World Patient Safety Day 2024 will be celebrated on September 17, 2024, with the theme focused on improving diagnosis for patient safety, under the slogan “Get it right, make it safe!”. This year's emphasis on diagnosis highlights its crucial role in ensuring patient safety, reducing medical errors, and enhancing health outcomes. The campaign will bring together patients, families, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and civil society to stress the importance of accurate and timely diagnosis in medical practice.
The "World Patient Safety Day 2024" celebration will be marked by a series of meaningful activities promoting the theme “Get it right, make it safe!”, with a focus on improving diagnosis for patient safety. Here are the key events planned for this year:
1. Capacity Building through Patient Safety Training (TeamSTEPPS 3.0) on September 10 and 19, 2024
- The yearly capacity-building initiative will feature "TeamSTEPPS 3.0", a training program designed to improve teamwork and communication among healthcare professionals to enhance patient safety. Two batches of healthcare teams will be trained, focusing on collaborative skills crucial for ensuring correct and timely diagnosis.
2. Casting of an Orange Glow on Tondo Medical Center's Patient Safety Monument" on the night of September 16, 2024
-Tondo Medical Center will illuminate its "Patient Safety Monument" with an orange glow in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with Patient Safety Advocates worldwide. This event will shine a light—both literally and metaphorically—on the importance of accurate and timely diagnosis in patient safety.
3. Patient Safety Forum on September 17, 2024 (World Patient Safety Day)
- The highlight of the celebration will be the "Patient Safety Forum", featuring two distinguished speakers:
- Dr. Lynn Crisanta Panganiban from the UP College of Medicine, a renowned expert in patient safety.
- Mr. Ion Gregorio, an esteemed member of the Tondo Medical Center Patient Safety community.
Together, they will lead discussions on critical aspects of the diagnostic process, including patient examination, testing, and the review of results before reaching a final diagnosis and treatment. This will offer valuable insights into how healthcare professionals can ensure that diagnoses are both correct and timely.
4. Awarding of Patient Safety Champions:
- This segment of the event will recognize and celebrate the contributions of "Patient Safety Champions"—individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence in promoting patient safety in their practice.
