The EDSA People Power Revolution, marking its 40th anniversary today, was a historic peaceful uprising in the Philippines from February 22 to 25, 1986, where millions gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to oust Ferdinand Marcos Sr., amid electoral fraud, corruption, and martial law abuses. This four-day bloodless revolution was the culmination of years of oppression, fear, and resistance against a dictatorship that had ruled the country under martial law for years.

The spirit of EDSA People Power lives on in our ongoing fight for good governance. We still face many of the same problems todayโrising prices of goods, poor public services, and leaders who abuse their power. Corruption still reeks, and political dynasties continue to control the highest seats of government, passing power among themselves like an inheritance rather than a public trust. The same families that benefited from the Marcos dictatorship are still in power, rewriting history to suit their interest and whitewashing the crimes of the past. Forgetting the past allows history to repeat itself. Remembering it gives us the strength to demand better.
Decades have passed, but our duty remains clear: demand accountability from our leaders and protect democracy. As we mark this 40th anniversary, our loyalty belongs to the Filipino people. We reject the political dynasties that continue to hold power through lies and empty promises. Let the courage of the people of EDSA remind us that change is possible when we stand as one. We defeated a dictatorship through collective action. We can defeat corruption and injustice the same way.
