“Maraming maraming salamat po, Sir Joms! Tudu tudu!”

Mary Ann Ortega shared her inspiring journey with her son, JM. When they enrolled him at SMLC, they hoped for progress — and they were blessed with so much more.

From being completely nonverbal, JM can now sing Old McDonald, identify alphabets, numbers, and colors, and even call his father “Daddy.” His eye contact has improved tremendously, and he has been accepted into a nursery SPED program. 🌟

Mary Ann credits much of this transformation to Teacher Joms, whose big heart and unlimited patience made all the difference. For her family, he is more than a teacher — he is a blessing they will always be grateful for.

Many children with special needs respond better to pictures, charts, or simple drawings. Visual supports like picture schedules or flashcards help them understand routines, tasks, and choices. It reduces frustration and makes communication easier.

Ayn’s parents shared their deep gratitude to SMLC and his therapist for being so accommodating and attentive to their child’s needs. The therapist took time to listen to their stories and ensured that what was being practiced at the learning center was also reinforced at home.

They have witnessed a huge improvement in Ayn. From expressing himself through anger and tears, to now being able to communicate better and show his thoughts in healthier ways.

For them, the therapist’s concern goes beyond the role of a teacher. He has been like a friend and a fellow parent, truly invested in Ayn’s growth and progress.

From once being nonverbal, Caleb is now able to express himself with words. What used to be simple prompts like “give me” have now grown into clearer sentences such as “I want to eat.” For his parents, these may seem like small steps, but they are life-changing achievements given Caleb’s condition.

They deeply credit this progress to SMLC and the dedication of Teacher Chimbe, whose patience, persistence, and compassion helped Caleb find his voice. Through consistency and care, Teacher Chimbe has not only taught Caleb words, but has also opened doors for his greater independence and confidence.

Instead of asking your child to clean their room at once, guide them step by step—“Pick up the toys,” then “Fix the pillows.” Breaking down tasks prevents overwhelm and builds their confidence to succeed one step at a time.
