While running for president. carried the slogan - kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap. During his election, ran under the slogan - tapang at malasakit.
While these were their official slogans, what carried the day for PNoy was this statement:
"Kayo ang boss ko."
For Duterte...oh he's a colorful character -
Could it have been his promise to kill all the drug addicts in the country? Maybe it was his take no prisoners stand on corruption. Maybe it was his everyman charm or, lack therof. I think it was the entire package. His image was of this maverick mayor from Davao who was going to fix the Philippines. Wala siyang sasantuhin because, he was going to achieve his goal, come hell or high water.
Where does hypnosis come into play in all this?
PNoy "gave" back the power to the Filipino people. Imagine having the president of the Philippines working for you. How intoxicating to think of someone so great, at your beck and call.
Power . He had the Filipino people delighted at the sheer thought of the tables flipping and them being the boss, of the president! The things you could do!
Duterte played a different game.
He "created" chaos where no one saw it before. We all know that we, as a country, have a drug problem. But, no one saw it as a war. He created the war on drugs (and corruption, really) and painted himself as the savior. In complete contrast to PNoy, he was, is and will be the boss. He will save your ass but, he will take charge and, if you know what's good for you and the country, you'd better fall in line.
Order trance. Safety trance. Duterte had the Filipino people believing that he was the best choice heck, the only choice because, the Philippines is broken and, he's the only man who has the balls and the chutzpah to fix it.
Ladies and gentlemen, your President! 3,2,1 and sleep! 👊
