Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao (B’TIARA) proudly joins the Women, Peace and Security Conference Forum held in General Santos City, organized by Oxfam in collaboration with local partners and peace networks across Mindanao.

The event brought together women leaders, advocates, peace workers, and community organizers to strengthen the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, amplify women’s voices in peacebuilding, and highlight the vital role of women in conflict-affected communities.

Representing Lanao del Sur, B’TIARA shared the lived realities of Meranaw women, the challenges faced by women mediators on the ground, and the ongoing efforts to support conflict prevention, social healing, and community resilience.

BT’RA emphasized:
• the importance of indigenous women’s leadership in peace processes
• strengthening networks across regions for inclusive peace
• ensuring that women combatants, survivors, and community peacekeepers are heard
• advancing local mechanisms that protect women’s rights and dignity

“We carry the stories and struggles of our communities. Joining this forum is a reminder that women are not only survivors — we are mediators, leaders, and builders of peace,” BT’RA representatives shared during the forum.

BT’RA extends gratitude to Oxfam, partner CSOs, and host institutions for creating meaningful spaces for dialogue and solidarity.

“For every woman who steps into peace work, a community is strengthened.”

Over the span of three meaningful days November 6, 21, and 22, 2025, Lanao del Sur witnessed a powerful and inspiring series of activities under the “Community-Based Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding: Community Healing and Reconciliation” program.

From Marawi City to the municipalities of District 1 and District 2, barangay officials, Lupong Tagapamayapa members, women leaders, traditional elders, and youth representatives came together with one vision: to rebuild trust, deepen understanding, and strengthen grassroots peace efforts.

The 3-day activity successfully provided safe spaces for honest conversations, reflections, and healing, while strengthening knowledge on the Barangay Justice System (BJS), the BARMM Parliamentary Election Process, community mediation, and reconciliation practices.

At the heart of this milestone is the unwavering leadership of Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao, whose dedication, compassion, and commitment continue to inspire communities to embrace peace and unity.

Its efforts brought life to every session, empowering women and youth, renewing hope, and reminding everyone that lasting peace begins within communities when people come together with sincerity and purpose.

The long-term impact of this activity goes far beyond these three days: stronger local peace structures, empowered grassroots leaders, deeper inter-community trust, improved awareness of governance processes, and the beginning of healing conversations that will shape a more peaceful future for Lanao del Sur.

With shared commitment and sustained cooperation, and guided by the leadership of Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao, this initiative marks a meaningful step toward a more resilient, united, and peaceful Lanao del Sur.

Insha Allah Alhamdulillah

Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao, which literally means “Women for Peace and Mediation in Lanao,” was born out of the shared vision of women leaders in the region to promote peacebuilding, mediation, and transformative leadership. The initiative was conceptualized as a response to the growing need for women’s active participation in sustaining peace, social cohesion, and good governance in Lanao.

The group’s formation began with a training on strategic planning spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS), which served as the foundation for developing a unified direction for women-led mediation efforts. This was followed by a series of capacity-building activities, including trainings and seminars on peace and conflict resolution, leadership, mental health and psychosocial support, and disaster resilience.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was later signed between the Bangsamoro Government–Integrated Area for Recovery and Welfare (BGIARW) and Transformation Fragilities, solidifying the partnership for advancing community-based peace and development initiatives.

Through the initiative and dedication of pioneering women leaders and peace advocates, Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao continues to serve as a platform for empowering women as agents of peace, dialogue, and transformation across the province.

The Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao (BT’RA), under the Women Insider Mediators (WIM) – RAMP Lanao Network, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), and the Local Government of Marawi City, successfully conducted a one-day capacity-building and healing session entitled “Community-Based Conflict Prevention and Peace Building: Community Healing and Reconciliation.”

Held on November 6, 2025, in Marawi City, the activity brought together around 70 women leaders, barangay officials, Lupong Tagapamayapa members, and barangay chairpersons from different barangays in Marawi City. The event served as a vital platform to empower grassroots women and community leaders in promoting peace, reconciliation, and justice—values deeply rooted in the Maranao culture of kapamagogopa (mutual help) and kaisaisa(solidarity).

Throughout the sessions, participants gained insights on:

Peace and Security with messages from the Provincial Director of PNP and AFP

Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Pillars – led by Dr. Jehanne U. Mutin, highlighting the participation of women in peace processes and community resilience.
Barangay Justice System (Lupon Tagapamayapa) – discussed by City Director Alibar Pangandaman of MILG-Marawi, emphasizing mediation and restorative justice.

During the afternoon workshop on Reconciliation and Healing Mechanisms, participants reflected on their experiences with community conflicts, shared interventions that helped, and formulated recommendations and ways forward for sustainable peace. The open forum allowed honest sharing of local issues—such as limited coordination, gaps in peace structures, and the need for psychosocial support for affected women and families.

The event concluded with the Closing Remarks of the Punong Barangay and a distribution of certificates, marking another meaningful step in strengthening community peace networks led by women.

Through this initiative, the Bae a Tomanor sa Ranao (BT’RA) continues to stand as a pillar of hope, healing, and leadership among Maranao women—championing inclusive peacebuilding that starts within the heart of every barangay. The success of this activity reaffirms BT’RA’s mission to nurture empowered women mediators who serve as catalysts of harmony, justice, and reconciliation in Lanao del Sur.
