We’ve all heard of the ozone layer (naturally produced) in the stratosphere, which resides roughly 10-15 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. This 10 inch thick layer of gas is vital for life on Earth as it absorbs the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. However man-made chemicals referred to as ozone-depleting substances are slowly destroying this important layer of ozone. But that’s not the topic of today’s article. It is just a means to warm you up to the idea that without Ozone there would be no life on earth.
Ozone is also produced when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants, chemical plants, industrial boilers and other sources react chemically in the presence of sunlight. This ozone is harmful to breathe and it damages crops, trees and, other vegetation. But when you look closely Ozone is the natural cleaning process the earth has created to clean air of pollutants. The unstable form of Ozone dissolves immediately when the job is done.

In this first chapter I would like to explain why ozone is toxic for inhalation.
It's because in humans the great expanse of our alveolar surface is protected by a small amount of antioxidant content, which is insufficient in extinguishing the strong oxidant activity of ozone. Your lungs simply have not enough antioxidants to deal with the potent power of this oxidative therapy. This leads approximately to a 10 to 20 min coughing burst which is quite unpleasant. Thereafter the coughing stops and all is back to normal.
That's why breathing ozone in larger concentrations is harmful to the human being.
The exact opposite is true for our blood because both the plasma and blood cells have a remarkable quantity of cooperating antioxidants.
The tiny amount of ozone that is induced during therapy triggers in healthy cells a moderate oxidative stress when interacting with lipids (found in our body and cells). This tiny stress triggers a host of reactions.
It increases endogenous production of antioxidants,
activates our Nrf2 pathway,
decreases inflammation,
improves circulation and oxygen delivery to cells
and enhances our immune system.

Ozone History
Christian Friedrich Schonbein a German chemistry professor first discovered ozone in the late 18th century. It was first used to disinfect operating rooms in 1856 and subsequently for disinfecting water in 1860. Ozone has very unique properties, and all microbes are susceptible to its oxidizing abilities. During World War I (1914-1918) the German army used ozone to treat battle wounds and other infections.

Beneficial Properties Of Ozone
Ozone has several incredible properties that account for its many clinical uses:
Ozone therapy activates Nrf2 pathway (is the master regulator of the cellular antioxidant response)
Ozone increases our most potent radical scavenger and cell wall protectors: glutathione peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase.
Ozone is highly antimicrobial. Ozone therapy disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell envelope through oxidation of the phospholipids and lipoproteins. Why Are Re**al Insufflations Considered The Best Form Of Administration?
Re**al insufflation of ozone is the easiest and safest form of application and administration. It works systematically without requiring more invasive methods such as autohemotherapy. Not only is it less invasive, easy to do, low cost, painless and practically free of adverse reactions. Re**al insufflations are as effective as major autohemotherapy just require more consistent application. How amazing is this? The best part is that you can do this at home in just a few minutes!! The procedure is usually performed following a bowel movement or a colonic treatment in order to ensure the colon is relatively free of f***l matter.
During re**al insufflations ozone is introduced through a catheter into the colon. Within 1 to 2 seconds the Ozone has reacted with the bacteria in the mucus membrane and has stimulated a host of biochemical reactions that now activate the healing response Ozone offers to everyone. After about 60-120 seconds the remaining oxygen is absorbed into the system. As a minor reaction of re**al insufflations some patients will feel the need to release gas or defecate.
Ozone Safety & Contraindications
In spite of the so-called ozone “toxicity”, the incidence of adverse reactions is only 0.000007%, one of the lowest in medicine! Even a Panadol is more harmful and has a lot moreside effects .
It has been confirmed that if ozone is started slowly so that the body is not overwhelmed it is well tolerated by patients. Shortly during and after the procedure, some patients may complain about weakness, slight dizziness, or sleepiness which can be because of the die off of bacteria in the system.
The eyes and lungs are very sensitive to ozone as they have minimal antioxidant and neutralizing capabilities and therefore ozone gas in greater concentrations should never contact eyes and lungs.
Allergic skin reactions are possible, although they are very uncommon. Sifting through literature and studies about skin rashes I found two possible causes. The first possible reason is a Herxheimer reaction (microbial die off). The other is that individuals with a very low antioxidant status are unable to combat the ozone oxidation until these levels are restored.
Ozone is contraindicated in patients with a significant deficit of Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G-6PD- which is an inherited condition – causing red blood cells to break down in response to certain medication, infections or other stresses). This enzyme provides crucial reducing equivalents able to eliminate excessive oxidation and intensive haemolysis.
Ozone is contraindicated in pregnancy, merely as a precaution. In most European countries pregnant mothers are treated with ozone to provide extra oxygen and immunity to the baby. Also do they treat fresh born babies with ozone to help build a proper gut flora and to combat diseases like allergies, celiac and more which may have transferred from the mother.
Patients being treated with ACE inhibitors should be cautious with ozone and consult a practitioner.
Abnormal situations with hyperthyroidism, thrombocytopenia and serious cardio-vascular instability should also consult a practitioner before commencing with ozone therapy.
This all said most doctors we have interviewed have confirmed that a mild form of re**al insufflation has always helped. Even patients who had all of the above.
