Why Spirulina can absorb so much SUN ENERGY

Plants contain high levels of chlorophyll. This is a pigment which converts sunlight into nutrients (photosynthesis) and gives plants their green color. However, chlorophyll can only absorb part of the light spectrum. In addition to chlorophyll, Spirulina produces a unique light-absorbing protein complex called phycocyanin. Phycocyanin, which gives Spirulina its blue color, is a potent antioxidant not found in other foods. Phycocyanin absorbs the missing part of the light spectrum and transforms it in such a way that chlorophyll can also integrate this portion. Because of this blue-green collaboration, Spirulina can absorb the entire light spectrum!
The carotenoids (yellow, red and orange nutrients) contained in Spirulina prevent the algae from burning during intensive exposure to sunlight. Each filament is only one cell wide, allowing all cells direct absorption of solar energy. In the much thicker leaves of plants, only the outermost cells are able to store light. Consequently, Spirulina can store sun energy in much greater quantities than any other plant. Spirulina is thus literally ‘sun food’!
Chlorophyll and phycocyanin work by detoxifying the body and stimulating the red blood cell production and by enhancing the immune system. Update on another cancer victim on late stages of cancer: On a few capsules of spirulina, she vomited "black" fluids. Vomit? Black? When people ask me why there are different effects on cancer patients, I say that spirulina, being the 3.6 year-old doctor that it is, dictates what must be done to the body to cure it. I only know that detoxification is effected by its tremendous chlorophyll content. But why through vomiting this time? Well, it saw the need to take out those toxins by making this person vomit. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Seaweed can be used in place of drugs to help children with attention deficit disorder (ADD), says an American author. Karl J. Abrams, a Californian chemistry professor, is giving a lecture in Edmonton next week on nutritional alternatives to Ritalin, one of the drugs most commonly prescribed for ADD sufferers. Ritalin is just a quick fix which masks the symptoms, said Abrams, author of the book Attention Deficit Disorder: A Nutritional Approach. It's estimated that more than one million Canadians have ADD, characterized by poor attention skills, impulsive behavior and hyperactivity. It is thought to be a hereditary illness. Health Canada reports that consumption of Ritalin has increased fivefold since 1990, a fact that has doctors and health authorities worried. Teachers like Ritalin because it makes the kids sit there nice and quiet - like zombies. But it isn't a cure," said Abrams. He claims the answer lies in algae. It is freeze-dried and turned into capsules.The algae, he says, contains minerals and amino acids that give long-term improvement to the brain's function.

Wow! Spirulina used to cure goiter in the 16th century (China and Japan)

Seaweed against Goitre
There are many references in the professional literature to the historical uses of seaweed in medicine. The 16th century Chinese herbal, Pen Tsae Kan Mu lists those recommended, as a cure for goitre and it may not be coincidence that in neighbouring Japan, where the incidence of goitre is low, cause the consumption of seaweed is among the highest in the world.
