What is an ABAT?
An Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT) helps implement behavior plans under the supervision of a certified professional to support individuals with autism and other developmental needs.
To become an ABA TECHNICIAN (ABAT) through QABA, follow these steps:
1. ELIGIBILITY
- You must be at least 18 years old
- You need to have a High School Diploma or an Equivalent
2. COMPLETE TRAINING
- Finish 40 hours of approved ABA coursework, which includes:
- 3 Hours of Ethics
- 5 Hours of Autism Core Knowledge
3. SUPERVISED FIELDWORK
- Complete a 15 hours of supervised fieldwork. You will need 1 hour of supervision for every 10 hours of independent work
4. PROFESSIONAL RECOMMENDATION
- Obtain a Professional Recommendation from a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst)
5. BACKGROUND CHECK
- Submit a current background check or an attestation from your employer
6. APPLICATION SUBMISSION
- Provide your identification training certificates, background check, supervisor information, and recommendation through QAVAβs online portal
- Note: The exam cost is $60
7. PASS THE ABAT EXAM
- Take and pass the 125-question ABAT Exam, with a minimum score of 72%
8. MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION
- Renew your certificate every 2 years by completing 12 Continuing Educational Units (CEUs)
