Operation Timbang Plus at Sitio Sugod, Brgy Sapad

Operation Timbang Plus (OPT), which was recently conducted in Sitio Sugod, a coastal area of Barangay Sapad, was an impressive team effort to improve the community's diet and health. However, there were a number of particular difficulties along the way to this target location.

Team members had to carry heavy equipment, like the wooden height board needed to measure the children's growth, while hiking great distances, traveling by pump boat at high tide, and cautiously crossing the waters at low tide in order to do this crucial task. Although these circumstances were difficult, the team's perseverance and commitment won out.

Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Barangay Health Workers (BHW), and the knowledgeable nutritionists and dietitians from Matanog formed a solid relationship that enabled the event to be a success. The diligence and perseverance made sure that all of the community's children got the care they required for nutritional evaluations and development tracking.

The local children were also given access to a deworming program. After being given a thorough explanation of the procedure, the women in Sitio Sugod enthusiastically recognized the program as an essential step in enhancing the health of their kids.

Even in the face of physical obstacles, this exercise demonstrates the strength of community solidarity and teamwork. The cooperation of these fervent organizations continues to enhance the health and welfare of our coastal communities in spite of the challenges.

Operation Timbang Plus in Brgy. Central Langkong

Operation Timbang Plus is a nationwide health program in the Philippines aimed at tackling malnutrition, especially among children under five. The initiative involves Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Barangay Health Workers (BHW), and local government units, who conduct weigh-ins to assess growth and nutritional health.

The program helps identify underweight or malnourished children and provides early intervention to promote better nutrition and healthy living in the community.

Recently, this vital program was carried out in Brgy. Central Langkong thanks to the dedication of the BNS and BHW. Their efforts enabled us to reach more households.

A special thanks to Brgy. Chairman Lopez Mamadra and his Barangay Secretary for their unwavering support. They provided a vehicle, making transportation to the remote sitio easier, significantly contributing to the smooth ex*****on of the activity.

Meeting with the World Food Programme on the Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) Program

Under the visionary leadership of Mayor Zohria S. Bansil-G**o, the Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) Program was successfully launched in August 2024, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education. This initiative, rooted in local agriculture and focused on improving student nutrition, is already making a tangible difference in the community of Matanog.

In a recent meeting with the WFP, they discussed updates on the HGSF program, including its positive impact on students and local farmers. The gathering also explored the exciting possibility of expanding the program to new schools for the 2025-2027 academic years, starting in June 2025.

This expansion would not only enhance the nutritional well-being of more students but also support local economies by involving local farmers in providing fresh, healthy meals. The collaborative effort has been bolstered by the active involvement of the local government of Matanog, the dedicated faculty and staff of Mohammad Ali G**o Elementary School, and the passionate Parents Teachers and Community Association (PTCA).
