MONTHLY BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLAR (BNS) MEETING_December 2025

The monthly Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Meeting was successfully conducted in December 2025, serving as an important platform to assess ongoing nutrition-related activities and strengthen coordination among BNS members.

During the meeting, the following agenda were thoroughly discussed:

📌Updates on the conduct of Operation Timbang Plus (OPT)-Detailed updates were shared regarding the ongoing conduct of OPT, including accomplishments, challenges encountered in the field, and strategies to ensure accurate data collection and complete coverage of target beneficiaries.

📌Submission and review of accomplishment reports BNS members submitted their respective monthly accomplishment reports, which were reviewed to monitor performance, document activities, and identify areas for improvement.

📌Planning and scheduling of OPT activities
The team also discussed and finalized the schedule of upcoming OPT activities. It was agreed that the entire BNS team will work together, particularly in far-flung sitios, to ensure efficient implementation, better coordination, and proper assistance in areas that are difficult to access.

The meeting emphasized teamwork, accountability, and commitment among BNS members in delivering quality nutrition services and improving the overall nutrition status of the community.

Strengthening Community Health Services: Highlights of the 4th Local Special Body (LSB) Meeting

The 4th Local Special Body (LSB) Meeting was convened with the participation of the Local Health Board (LHB) and the Municipal Nutrition Committee, aiming to further strengthen health governance and improve the delivery of health services in the Municipality of Matanog.
One of the major points discussed was the importance of voluntary blood donation, emphasizing its critical role in saving lives and ensuring a steady blood supply for emergencies, surgeries, and hospital requirements. Participants highlighted the need for continuous community education and stronger advocacy at the barangay level.

The meeting also provided an update on the upcoming Matanog District Hospital, which involves the conversion of the former Wamy Clinic. This development is expected to significantly enhance access to healthcare services, reduce referrals to distant hospitals, and improve overall health outcomes for residents.

Another key agenda was the call for full support from all BLGUs for the upcoming OPT, stressing the importance of barangay participation to ensure smooth implementation and maximum community coverage. The medical assistance being extended by LGU Matanog to CRMC and Sanitarium Hospital was likewise discussed, reinforcing collaboration among health facilities to better serve patients.

Additionally, the meeting served as a platform to inform and remind BLGUs of previous agreements made by LHB members. The attending BLGUs,Sapad, Bayanga Sur, and Langkong,shared practical techniques and best practices on encouraging community participation in RHU programs. These included effective monitoring of TB patients, addressing non-compliance with immunization, and strengthening engagement in other health programs through active barangay involvement.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among stakeholders to uphold agreed actions, improve coordination, and work collectively toward the sustained improvement of public health services in Matanog.

Promoting Health and Daily Discipline for Matanog Orphanage Center’s Orphans

Through the continued assistance and proactive initiatives of the LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Department, in close partnership with the dedicated officials of the Matanog Orphanage Center, the orphans are receiving consistent guidance and support in carrying out their daily routines. This includes regular exercise activities designed to strengthen their bodies, improve their mental well-being, and build healthy habits at a young age.
The coordinated efforts of both agencies ensure that the children are not only cared for but also encouraged to develop discipline, confidence, and a positive outlook toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle. By providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment, the team helps the orphans grow holistically,physically, emotionally, and socially,empowering them to thrive each day.

Bringing Healthcare Closer: Matanog Joins All-in-One Medical Mission

In collaboration with the LGU Matanog Health and Nutrition Department and the Philippine Marines, the Municipality of Matanog proudly took part in the All-in-One Medical Mission held at the Headquarters of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 2. This initiative aims to bring essential health services closer to the community, especially to residents who have limited access to medical care.

The event provided a wide range of free services, including:

✅Distribution of food packs to ensure that beneficiaries receive basic nutritional support.

✅Eye check-ups and free eyeglasses for individuals with vision concerns.

✅Minor surgical procedures for patients in need of immediate but simple medical interventions.

✅Circumcision services, one of the most requested services during medical missions.

✅Pediatric check-ups to ensure the health and well-being of children.

✅General eye examinations for early detection of eye-related conditions.

To make the experience even more accessible, free transportation was arranged for all beneficiaries, ensuring they could travel to and from the municipality safely and comfortably.

This medical mission highlights the strong partnership between local government units and the military in serving communities and promoting public health. The Municipality of Matanog extends its gratitude to all partners and volunteers who made this outreach activity meaningful and successful.

Empowering Coconut Farmers Through Basic Life Support Training

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), through the CFIDP under RA 11524, held a one-day Information Caravan and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for 35 NCFRS-registered coconut farmers.

In partnership with the LGU Matanog’s Health and Nutrition Department, the Municipal Agriculturist Officer, and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Matanog, the activity equipped farmers and LGU personnel with essential first aid and life-saving skills for improved safety and emergency readiness in their communities.

With this training, our LGU Health and Nutrition Department, including the BNS, will be better capacitated and trained to provide immediate first aid to people in need in Matanog. These skills will also support our duties as medics during the various activities and responsibilities we handle in the community.

JOINT LHB–MNC MONTHLY MEETING

The Joint Local Health Board (LHB) and Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) convened for their monthly meeting to strengthen coordination and improve the municipality’s health and nutrition programs.

During the session, members reviewed the 2025 Municipal Health Situational Analysis, discussed the top 10 causes of morbidity and mortality, and received important updates on Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) control, the National Immunization Program (NIP), and ongoing nutrition initiatives, including OPT results and the management of SAM and MAM cases.

The meeting was highly productive, with meaningful discussions that led to practical strategies and action points to help address the municipality’s current health and nutrition challenges.

Our warmest appreciation to all participants for their time and commitment,especially the Barangay Captains of Sapad, Bayanga Sur, and Langkong, the SB Committee on Health and Nutrition for their strong support in policy alignment and program guidance, and our dedicated Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) officers whose on-the-ground efforts continue to bring essential nutrition services closer to every household.

The Individual Profile and Assessment Review (IPAR) was successfully conducted for all registered Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) members in Barangay Kidama

The activity focused on updating the personal, socio-economic, and health information of coconut farmers in preparation for an upcoming Medical Mission, ensuring accurate data and effective coordination for targeted support.

The event was carried out through the collective efforts of the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Kidama, the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Matanog, the Municipal Agriculturist Officer, the Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), and the LGU-Matanog Health and Nutrition Department.
