Davao Oriental ranked first among provinces in the Davao Region in the (MR-SIA), which ran from January 19 to February 24, 2026, posting the highest accomplishment rate at 81% based on the projected eligible population. The province outperformed Davao de Oro, which recorded 70%, and Davao del Norte at 66%, underscoring Davao Orientalโs strong field implementation across its 11 municipalities.
A total of 45,169 children aged 6โ59 months were vaccinated during the campaign, significantly reducing the number of susceptible children and strengthening protection against measles and rubellaโhighly contagious diseases that can cause severe complications, long-term disability, and death. Provincial health officials emphasized that the campaignโs impact goes beyond numerical targets, as thousands of children are now safeguarded from preventable outbreaks, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
Within the province, Caraga led all local government units with 96% coverage, followed by Manay and Baganga at 90% each. Meanwhile, San Isidro, Banaybanay, and the Mati each achieved 80%, collectively driving the provinceโs overall regional lead. These accomplishments were attributed to intensified microplanning, daily monitoring, immediate mop-up vaccination of deferred and hesitant families, and strong barangay-level mobilization.
Dr. Reden V. Bersaldo, Provincial Health Office II and concurrent Chief of Hospital of DOPMC, credits the success to the unified efforts of municipal governments, barangay officials, DSWD/Pantawid focal persons and frontline healthcare workers who conducted house-to-house master listing, fixed and temporary vaccination posts, and weekend special immunization activities to reach working parents.
Ms. Darlene Sherill Fernandez, RN, Provincial National Immunization Program Manager, said that despite logistical constraints, challenging terrain, and vaccine hesitancy concerns, the campaign was completed safely across all municipalities with no reported deaths related to adverse events following immunization.
With its leading regional performance, Davao Oriental led by Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang strengthens its commitment to sustained routine immunization and disease surveillance, reinforcing its goal of protecting every child and preventing future measles outbreaks in the province.
