Lactation or breastfeeding increases a mother's nutrient needs due to the demands of breast milk production and blood loss during childbirth.

Vitamin C is important during lactation because it is a natural and essential antioxidant component of breast milk.

Did you know that the amount of vitamin C in breast milk is directly influenced by the mother’s diet?

The Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes 2015 of DOST-FNRI recommends that lactating mothers consume 95 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C daily, while pregnant women need 70 mg.

While citrus fruits are often the “go-to” source of vitamin C, did you know that guava packs more vitamin C?

📢Smoke-Free Task Force Enhances Strategies for a Healthier Mati

The Smoke-Free Task Force convened on August 6, 2025 ( Wednesday), at the SP Session Hall to reinforce the implementation of City Ordinance No. 249 Series of 2018, known as the "Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance of the City of Mati." The meeting centered on strategies to sustain and improve the ordinance's effectiveness through a detailed review of its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

Key Discussion Points:

1. Review of Current Implementation:
- Assessed the present impact and challenges of the ordinance.
- Identified areas needing improvement in enforcement and public awareness.

2. Enhancements to Enforcement:
- Explored more effective monitoring techniques.
- Discussed strategies for better coordination among enforcement agencies.

3. Community Engagement:
- Planned initiatives to increase public awareness and compliance.
- Focused on educating the community about the health benefits of a smoke-free environment.

4. Support for Cessation:
- Discussed expanding access to smoking cessation programs.

📢City of Mati Balay Paanakan- North & South Successfully Completes Annual Monitoring

Mati City's Balay Paanakan-Dawan & Dahican birthing home successfully completed its annual monitoring and assessment on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, conducted by the Regulation, Licensing, and Enforcement Division of the Department of Health Region XI (RLED-DOH). This inspection is mandatory for license renewal.

Engr. Sandra S. Manampan, RMN-LO III, led the assessment, which included a thorough physical inspection using a standardized licensing tool. The RLED-DOH team evaluated the facility's infrastructure, equipment, staffing, and adherence to protocols, ensuring compliance with all regulations for safe and effective birthing services.

This annual monitoring is crucial for upholding the high quality of maternal care at CMBP-Dawan & Dahican, prioritizing the safety and well-being of mothers and newborns. The assessment also ensures the facility adheres to relevant policies and maintains up-to-date Manuals of Procedures (MOPs). MOPs are detailed, step-by-step instructions for executing specific tasks, processes, or projects within an organization, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and safety. They cover various aspects of the facility's operations, including infection control, emergency protocols, and patient care standards. Compliance with these guidelines is essential for maintaining the birthing home's license to operate and delivering quality services. The renewed license allows City of Mati Balay Paanakan to continue its vital work .

📢 Mati Intensifies Smoke-Free Efforts for Red Orchid Award

Mati City is bolstering its enforcement of City Ordinance No. 249, s. 2018 (Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance) in preparation for the 3rd Year Red Orchid Award 2025 Validation. A crucial meeting was held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the City Health Office Conference Room.

Key attendees, including Councilor Rogelio "Roger" Pabio (Chair-Committee on Health) , Dr. Ben Hur G. Catbagan, Jr. (City Health Officer) and Sitti Ram Maela J. Pasandaan, RN, LPT,(Smoking Cessation Program Coordinator) collaborated on enhancing the ordinance's impact. Discussions focused on improving enforcement, developing innovative public awareness campaigns, and implementing stricter penalties. Support for smoking cessation programs is also a key component of the strategy.

This collaborative effort highlights Mati City's dedication to public health. The Red Orchid Award is a significant goal, and this meeting demonstrates Mati's commitment to exceeding its criteria.
