👨🍳 Step-by-Step Guide to Apply as a Demi Chef on a Cruise Ship
🔪 Who is a Demi Chef?
A Demi Chef de Partie (often shortened to Demi Chef) is an assistant to the Chef de Partie. They are responsible for preparing food in a specific section of the kitchen, ensuring quality, cleanliness, and consistency.
✅ Step 1: Meet the Basic Requirements
• At least 21 years old
• With culinary degree or vocational certificate
• Minimum 2 years of kitchen experience, preferably in hotels or restaurants
• Good communication skills in English
• Physically fit and mentally prepared for long contracts
✅ Step 2: Prepare Your Documents
• Updated CV/Resume (highlight your kitchen experience)
• Valid passport (with at least 1 year validity)
• Culinary school certificate / NC II Cookery (TESDA)
• Employment certificates from previous jobs
• Training certificates (HACCP, Basic Food Safety, etc.)
• Seafarer’s documents (if applicable):
• Seaman’s Book
• Basic Safety Training (BST)
• Medical Certificate (PEME)
• MARINA SID/ SRN
• Yellow Card (WHO vaccination)
✅ Step 3: Look for Legitimate Manning Agencies
Apply only to POEA-licensed cruise manning agencies, like:
• Magsaysay Maritime
• CF Sharp
• United Philippine Lines
• OSM Maritime
• BSM Crew Service
• UPL
👉 Search for their official websites or visit their FB pages.
✅ Step 4: Submit Application
• Apply online through agency portals
• Walk-in application (if nearby)
• Make sure your resume is tailored for kitchen positions
• Some agencies may ask for a short video introduction
✅ Step 5: Attend Screening and Interviews
• Be prepared to answer questions about your kitchen experience
• You might be asked to do a practical cooking test
• Some agencies also conduct online interviews
✅ Step 6: Complete Medical and Training
Once accepted:
• Take your Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME)
• Attend required maritime trainings (BST, SDSD, etc.)
• Process your Seaman’s Book if first time
• Attend company orientation
✅ Step 7: Get Deployment Date and Join the Ship!
After completing all documents and trainings:
• Wait for your joining date
• Receive your embarkation ticket
• Fly to your assigned cruise ship and start your journey as a Demi Chef!
