𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐓𝐈 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫

On August 6, 2025, the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) welcomed technical representatives from the World Bank and DTI Region 10 for a site visit and consultation session.

The visit was part of a broader initiative to gather insights from industry stakeholders and better understand the needs of SMEs, particularly in the Processed Fruits and Nuts (PFN) sector.

As a Shared Service Facility (SSF) supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, NMFIC was selected as one of the stops to highlight how the center help small businesses through access to food processing equipment and technical support.

The engagement included a brief presentation on NMFIC’s background and role in supporting MSMEs, followed by an open discussion and a guided tour of the center's R&D processing areas and laboratories.

As we reach the midpoint of the year, the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) conducts its 𝐌𝐢𝐝-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 in Dahilayan, Bukidnon. A strategic pause to assess progress, address challenges, and align efforts toward achieving our annual targets. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐌𝐏 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐏 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐎𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥

On June 10, 2025, Mr. Fabio Jr. D. Guno, a full-time faculty member of the Food Science and Technology Department and a designated technical researcher from the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center, conducted a one-day training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) for Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) in Misamis Oriental.

The training was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (DTI CARP), in collaboration with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), to support ARBOs in their efforts to obtain Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensing. The Mananum Bag-o Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative, a priority ARBO located in Medina, Misamis Oriental, served as the host site and primary beneficiary of the activity.

The seminar aimed to assist ARBOs in complying with one of the FDA’s key inspection requirements—obtaining a GMP compliance certificate—by equipping them with essential knowledge and practices that promote food safety and product quality. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the capacity of ARBOs to become licensed and competitive manufacturers in the local domestic market.

The faculty and staff of the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) visited the NMFIC’s Center as part of their Lakbay Aral: Experiential Learning program.

The activity was warmly hosted and moderated by the USTP-Extension and Community Relations Office, beginning with a comprehensive presentation on USTP’s Innovation Framework, followed by an insightful facility tour.

As part of their “Innovation Essentials: A Training on Starting and Sustaining Innovative Practices,” CCCDO participants toured our Food Processing Facility, where they explored innovative processes and sustainable practices that can enrich their own research and academic initiatives.The visit provided them with practical knowledge and strategic insights to enhance their capabilities and drive meaningful academic and developmental advancements.

This benchmarking activity does not only strengthen institutional ties but also empowers educators with valuable hands-on experiences that they can bring back to their classrooms and research initiatives—fueling innovation, discovery, and growth.

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐬: 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝟑-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐮𝐬

From May 7-9, 2025, a successful 3-day training session was held for Josephus, an MSME, focused on the operation of water retorts. The first day covered essential theoretical topics, including introduction to water retort, its purpose, component familiarization, and operational safety.

The following days were dedicated to hands-on practice, where participants worked with real products like RTE Dinuguan and Paksiw. By the end of the training, all attendees had gained the skills to operate the water retort confidently and independently.

At the conclusion of the program, each participant was awarded a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their commitment and achievement. 🎓
