Be your own version of iron man
One day after doing a cycling ride, he found himself laying flat on the floor, unable to get up and move around due to an excruciating pain on his lower back...
Darren sought Osteopathy sessions with me more than a year ago due to a cycling incident that caused his low back to have severe muscle spasms resulting in difficulties standing up, walking, and doing all activities of daily living.
He was already training in running and cycling before that and it was a routinary cycle ride for him but still his body reacted that way.
The reason his body reacted that way is because he already felt the signs years back but they were neglected: on and off lower back and hip pains, unease during sitting position, knee pains that suddenly comes and goes, stiffness along the entire spine especially upon waking up, unable to look behind during cycling, spasms on the low back during heavy coughing/ heaving and the list goes on.
These were signs of weakness of the core and multiple layers of muscles pulling against each other causing unwanted tension all over the body. And since his body was so used to doing the same patterns, his body adapted to those activities resulting to repetitive overuse syndrome and compensations over compensations kept piling on until suddenly his body decided it does not want to take it anymore. His body just gave up on him.
Desperate for relief, he sought Osteopathy with me the very next day.
We did a thorough assessment of his condition and was positive for lumbar disc herniations, SI joint pain, ligamentous tension, and sciatica.
Osteopathy, being a gentle maneuvering technique, it was the best treatment of choice as he was in excruciating pain even by being moved a little bit.
After the session, he was able to stand up straight and walk comfortably again.
Fast forward to today, aches and pains has been dramatically lessened and he's fully functional. He's able to do all of his trainings, competed and placed 4th in his age group in one of his several triathlon events and was even able to finish the half ironman (70.3) event on numerous occassions.
Finishing an ironman is no ordinary feat and that's his greatest come back after doing the Osteopathy program and intense training for over a year! Darren aims for a podium finish for his age group in the next triathlon events. He is truly his own version of iron man.
