Dermatomyositis. ✨️ This is an inflammatory disorder of the skeletal muscles and associated skin lesions. If there is a patient with (proximal) muscle weakness and presents with a rash on the face (heliotrope rash), shoulders and chest (shawl sign), photosensitivity and lesions on the hands especially on the joints of the hands (Gottron's papules), and dilated blood vessels around the cuticles (nail fold changes), we would need to do certain tests to confirm the diagnosis and then provide treatment options for the patients. Cutaneous larva migrans. ✨️ It is a parasitic skin infection caused by hookworm larvae from cats, dogs and other animals but can also infect humans through skin contact from walking barefoot on the beach or exposure from moist soft soil that has been contaminated by animal f***s. Most of our patients have either been farmers or have been on vacation on the beach and have picked up the larvae from direct skin contact.

Typically the lesions start out as an itchy rash with bumps that later progress and having a snake-like pattern, showing the tracks where the larvae have been migrating (hence, "migrans").

I encountered this patient who had not been to the beach but was exposed through either gardening with soil frequented by stray cats or from contact with the stray animals themselves.

It is important to be vigilant when exposed to contaminated areas like the sandy beaches or moist soft soil and set an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist if you suspect you may have this kind of lesion.

Pyogenic Granuloma. ✨️ Pyogenic granuloma is a benign skin tumor that consists of abnormal blood vessels that break and tend to bleed easily. It can be triggered by trauma, certain medications, hormones or infection. This condition can removed through electrocauterization in the clinic.

Acrochordon. ✨️ Acrochordon or skin tags are benign growths on the skin that usually grows on the creases like the neck and armpits. These are typically small however it can grow to more than an inch big, which we call giant acrochordon. These are not alarming but if the patient gets bothered by them, there are treatment options available for removal such as cauterization or surgical excision. Clinic Chronicles: My patient tried so many products hoping to treat his hyperpigmentation but his condition was getting worse and he showed signs of skin irritation. He brought all the things he tried and he told me he was getting desperate so he kept using more and more products.

Acne. ✨️ Acne vulgaris (commonly known as acne, breakout, or pimples) is a common skin condition that occurs when follicles become plugged with oil, dead skin and bacterial invasion, that can cause inflammation which could possibly lead to hyperpigmentation and scarring.
