MEDITATIVE DANCERCISE
With the proliferation of SPA all over the world, one can reasonably conclude that this was brought about mainly by the ever increasingly stressful living environment we are currently in. When I first got involved in the SPA profession some 20 years ago, the focus was solely on the techniques. What can be accomplished with those techniques is a just a temporary relaxation of
the body or a short lived feeling of well being in the physical body. Initially, someone coined this term “Meditative Dancercise” to represent a dance form so elevated that it can only be achieved with some kind of spirituality. I adopted it to describe what I have learned over the past 20 years. Through Meditative Dancercise approach, I was able to understand more about the needs of a person both physical and spiritual. It, hence, puts me in a better position to combine traditional massage techniques with this understanding to address my client’s particular physical and spiritual needs in a very effective way. It always starts out with being completely straightforward to understand oneself. Then, there are a lot of breathing (similar to Yoga), energy channeling (like Tai Chi), and even meditation so that one gets to explore his spirituality, more importantly the connectivity between his/her physical and spiritual body. There’s got to be a spiritual source for every physical malfunction. Being able to identify the source, this Meditative Dancercise approach that I developed over the years can be thought of as a new holistic approach in the SPA industry. It can also be said as a time tested technique with a spiritual dimension. I also noticed from my years of experience that a lot of masseuses easily gets worn-out from their job because administering those traditional massage techniques is extremely strenuous. One way to negate this situation is to introduce them to this Meditative Dancercise approach. As they become more accustomed to this approach, they know where and how to look for problems and learn to channel their clients' energy to address a particular problem and resolve it the proper and effective way rather than using 100% of their force. In the end, more often than not, a masseuse may find herself even more energized after a providing a session of SPA service. It is a breakthrough of prevailing practices that I decided to promote the “Meditative Dancercise Approach” here in the Philippines. I firmly believe that the SPA business has to elevate itself to the spiritual level so that not only our clients’ needs would be better taken care of, but also the life expectancy of our practitioners will be greatly enhanced, which in turn makes our business more sustainable.
