"My first year of residency under the Department of ENT-HNS is coming close to its end. In my twelve months of never-ending duties, countless patients and infinite learning opportunities, my greatest achievement is not marked by a certificate, a medal or a citation, but by a quiet symbol—an asterisk. It may look insignificant, a symbol easily overlooked in a river of words. But to me, it represents one of the biggest milestones of my journey as an ENT resident: stepping up as the main surgeon.
The asterisk meant that my mentors trusted my hands. It meant hours of study, countless nights on duty, and the weight of responsibility settling firmly, yet confidently, on my shoulders. The asterisk was small, but it symbolized everything big: courage, growth, readiness, and the beginning of becoming the doctor I once aspired to be. It’s a simple character, but for me, it marks a milestone: the year I first held both the responsibility and privilege of performing surgery myself.
This year, I learned that achievements aren’t always loud. Sometimes, they’re tucked quietly beside your name, waiting for you to notice them—waiting for you to realize that you’ve become more capable than you were even a few months ago.
The asterisk marks my work, but it also marks who I am becoming. And that is my greatest achievement."
