📍As of May 29, the Philippines has reported 25 confirmed and 13 suspected cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) in multiple regions including Central Visayas, Davao, and BARMM.

💡 What is Mpox?
Mpox is a viral infection caused by the monkeypox virus, a cousin of smallpox. It spreads through close, prolonged contact and is now seen in clusters around the country.

🧬 Transmission:
• Skin-to-skin contact, especially during intimate or prolonged contact
• Respiratory droplets during close face-to-face interaction
• Contact with contaminated objects (e.g., clothing, linens, surfaces)

🧍‍♂️ Symptoms:
• Fever, chills
• Headache and swollen lymph nodes
• Body aches and fatigue
• Progressive rash: macules → papules → vesicles (blisters) → pustules → scabs
• Rash often appears on the face, hands, ge****ls, or trunk

🧪 Diagnosis:
• Confirmed through PCR testing of skin lesions
• Clinical history and physical exam support early suspicion

💊 Treatment:
• Most cases are mild and self-limiting
• Severe cases may need supportive care or investigational antivirals like tecovirimat (not widely available)

🛡️ Prevention (No vaccine available locally):
• Avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms
• Maintain good hand hygiene and disinfect surfaces
• Healthcare workers: use full PPE when assessing rashes or suspect cases
