Hyperhidrosis is a dermatological disorder characterized by excessive sweating beyond thermoregulatory needs with major effects on patients' quality of life.

When topical therapy approaches fail to control hyperhidrosis, botulinum toxin injections are frequently used as a secondary therapeutic option.

Primary hyperhidrosis can be effectively and safely treated with local injections of Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A). It inhibits autonomic innervation of the salivary, tear, and sweat exocrine glands as well as cholinergic innervation at the neuromuscular junctions of smooth and striated muscles. Sweating is lessened or stopped for three to six months after the injections.
