📣📣LOOK: The successful roll-out training on administering the Psychosocial Assessment Tool for Children and Elderly was held in two batches for Medical Social Workers on April 5 and April 12, 2025, respectively. This training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively conduct psychosocial assessments, which are crucial in identifying the needs and challenges faced by vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.

The sessions were carefully structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. The day began with a detailed lecture that laid the foundation for understanding the assessment tool. Participants were introduced to the key concepts and techniques involved in psychosocial assessments. The lecture emphasized the importance of empathy, active listening, and professional judgment in gathering and interpreting sensitive information.

Following the lecture, participants took part in a practicum where they conducted real interviews with assigned cases in the wards. This hands-on experience was invaluable, enabling Medical Social Workers to apply theoretical knowledge and hone their interviewing techniques in a supervised environment.

The training culminated with case presentations, where participants shared their findings and reflected on their assessments, fostering collaborative learning and reinforcing best practices. Overall, the one-day training, in two different batches, was a successful step toward improving comprehensive psychosocial care for children and elderly patients of Bicol Medical Center. ♥️

📣📣LOOK: The Medical Social Work Department held its Semestral Management Review on July 12, 2025 at The Summit Hotel, Naga City, to reflect on the accomplishments and initiatives from January to June 2025. The event began with a detailed report of the department’s achievements during the first half of the year given by Atty. Ivy Pontanal, SWOIII, highlighting significant progress in patient-centered interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing professional development.

Following the accomplishments report, the MSWD hosted a Best Practice Presentation Contest where various areas within the department showcased innovative and effective approaches to social work service delivery. Ms. Edna Ciudadano, MSWH Head, shared her profound acknowledgement and appreciation of every team's effort and innovative works. The presentations of the following areas fostered knowledge-sharing and healthy competition, culminating in the recognition of outstanding initiatives:

📣📣📣LOOK: On July 12, 2025, the Medical Social Work Department successfully conducted the Work Attitude and Work Enhancement Program for MAIFIPP Implementers. This event was designed to promote positive work attitudes, build resilience, and inspire continuous professional growth among MSWD employees as medical assistance providers. The program was held under the theme “Grow with Grace: Resilience Embraces Change, Improvement Inspires Progress,” which perfectly captured the spirit of the day’s activities.

The event began promptly in the morning with the registration of participants, followed by the opening remarks from Ms. Edna Ciudadano, MSWD Head. The program featured two distinguished guest speakers who brought valuable perspectives on resilience, change, and personal development.

The first speaker, Fr. Roy S. Guerina, shared a heartfelt keynote address focusing on the importance of embracing change with grace and faith. He emphasized how spiritual well-being can serve as a foundation for resilience in the workplace, encouraging participants to view challenges as opportunities for growth.

Following this, Ms. Avary C. Sargento, a registered guidance counselor, led an interactive discussion that focused on building resilience through self-awareness and emotional intelligence. She engaged the participants with practical strategies to cultivate a growth mindset, manage workplace pressures, and continuously improve their professional skills. Her session was both motivational and insightful, encouraging attendees to embrace change as a pathway to progress.

These activities allowed participants to share experiences, reflect on their work attitudes, and support one another in their journey toward personal and professional development.

The event concluded with a synthesis session where key lessons were summarized, and participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow together. Feedback from attendees highlighted the relevance of the topics discussed and the effectiveness of the speakers in delivering meaningful content.

Overall, the WAVE Program was a resounding success. It reinforced the Medical Social Work Department’s commitment to empowering its team through continuous learning and resilience-building. The program left the MAIFIPP implementers inspired and better equipped to face workplace challenges with a positive attitude and a renewed sense of purpose.

📣📣📣LOOK: The Bahay Sirungan Project of CSI Batch 1997 has been awarded during the Recognition of Stakeholders, as nominated by the BMC-Medical Social Work Dept !! The awarding ceremony was held during the virtual celebration of Filipino Social Workers Day on June 20, 2025. This special recognition to the Top 15 MSWD's Stakeholders nationwide was initiated and organized by the DOH-HFDB.

The Sirungan nin Pag-asa Project of the CSI Batch 1997 is truly a testament to selfless service, compassionate action, and unwavering commitment to community health. Their initiative has not only provided indispensable practical support to countless cancer patients and their companions but has also profoundly strengthened the BMC-MSWD’s capacity to deliver comprehensive care. Their embodiment of intergenerational solidarity and their tangible contribution to enduring well-being make them exceptionally deserving of this recognition.

📣📣LOOK: On June 7, 2025, the Medical Social Work Department, in partnership with the USI BSSW De Paul Batch 6, successfully conducted a highly impactful Seminar on Holistic HIV Care and Support for Social Welfare Professionals carrying the theme "Bridging Care and Compassion: Empowering Social Workers in the HIV Response". This well-attended event brought together a diverse group of social welfare professionals, including LGU social workers, medical social workers from both private and public health facilities within Camarines Sur and social work students, all united in their commitment to enhancing care for individuals living with HIV.

The seminar served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, skill-building, and collaborative learning. The MSWD is truly appreciative to the following Resource Speakers who generously shared their time and expertise:

📗Mr. Jomari De Lima, RSW on Good Practices in Providing Social Welfare and Support to PLHIV

📣📣LOOK: The Annual Support Group Summit held last May 24, 2025 at BMC Auditorium - a BMC Medical Social Work Department's another milestone for the year!

These support groups organized and maintained by the MSWD namely Saliw-Isip Support Group of Psychiatry Department, Nephtalk Support Group of Hemodialysis Center and Kayang-Kaya Support Group of Cancer Center came together for a day of learning, sharing and camaraderie.

We thank the support of 3rd year social work students of Universidad de Sta. Isabel de Naga, Inc. for their generous time and effort to co-organize and co-facilitate this major event of the department.

We also thank those who shared their time, presence and support in making this activity for our patient's caregivers and patients themselves truly fun, meaningful and memorable.

📣📣LOOK: The MSWD's staff meeting for this month of May highlighted the cascading of the results of PGS Revalida conducted in April 2025 presented by the MSWD Head, Ms. Edna Ciudadano. The meeting also featured presentations from various areas highlighting their recent accomplishments and providing special updates. Order of presentations are as follows: OB ER, New ER, WCPU, Cancer Center, Cardiac Center, Psychiatry Dept, Malasakit Center, Ward & Direct Admission, MSWD Main/Upperground, and Point of Service. In addition, dissemination of crucial updates under Clinical, Admin and Training & Research Units were made.

Each area's presentations served to inform staff on progress, challenges, and upcoming goals, fostering a shared understanding of MSWD’s operational status and strategic direction for the coming months. The meeting also provided a platform for team engagement and feedback to enhance collaboration across areas of assigment.♥️
