From the Archives: The first unveiling of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ, Eternal Gardens' iconic landmark and symbol of the company’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
A moment in time, a promise for eternity
On the sacred ground of our first park in Baesa, Caloocan City, a faithful vision came to life on October 29, 1979. We remember with heartfelt reverence that historic day—the unveiling and blessing of the very first statue of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
This breathtaking masterpiece, designed by National Artist Dean Napoleon Abueva and consecrated in a solemn ceremony by His Eminence Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, was more than just the birth of a landmark. It was a promise: to create a space of peace, healing, and profound remembrance for the families we serve.
From that single, momentous event, a legacy of faith grew. Today, the image of the Transfiguration stands as an iconic symbol of our devotion across all 12 Eternal Gardens parks—and soon in our newest park in Brgy. Pacol, Naga City. It is the enduring heart of our mission, reminding us all that in remembrance, there is eternal light and transformation.

In 1976, Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua envisioned of a place where loss could be met with peace, and where every life—no matter how brief—would be honored with dignity. That dream became Eternal Gardens.
For 49 years, we have stood beside grieving families. We’ve witnessed quiet goodbyes, held space for sorrow, and helped love live on through every memorial, every prayer, every name etched in stone.
Today, that vision continues to grow stronger, deeper, and reach farther under the leadership of Chairman D. Edgard A. Cabangon, together with the management team and every Eternalite.
We have expanded our mission by building more parks, more chapels, more crematoriums, and more services to provide complete memorial care to every family we have the honor to serve.
As we step Onto the Gold, we honor every life that has shaped our path. With God’s grace, we vow to rise higher, serve deeper, and carry this legacy of love, service, and eternity into the next 50 years—and beyond.

A Piece of History: The Transfiguration of Jesus Christ Statues across all Eternal Gardens parks

How does a man’s vision of faith become a landmark for a nation?

In search of a landmark that would define his memorial park, Eternal Group’s founder, Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua, envisioned a centerpiece that would not merely mark an end—but proclaim the promise of a glorious new beginning. To him, art—like faith—was something that should belong to the people.

The first towering statue at Eternal Gardens - Baesa was designed by National Artist for Sculpture Dean Napoleon V. Abueva, who captured Christ in a powerful pose—gazing upward, arms outstretched toward the heavens.

The statue stands 33 feet high, representing the number of years Jesus Christ lived on Earth. It is mounted on a 12-foot pedestal, symbolizing the 12 apostles. But beyond its symbolic dimensions, the Transfiguration monument embodies the essence of Eternal Gardens: a deep faith in God and in life everlasting, and man’s unceasing pursuit of divine light and understanding.

Interestingly, when Abueva presented his initial model of the sculpture, an argument arose as to whether the image represented the Resurrection or the Ascension. It was only resolved after Ambassador Cabangon Chua consulted his close friend, then Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin, who affirmed that the image most powerfully depicted the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.

At the heart of all 12 Eternal Gardens parks—and soon in its newest park in Brgy. Pacol, Naga City—rises the towering statue of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ. More than a landmark, it stands as a symbol of the company’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Every August 6, Eternal Gardens joins the universal Church in commemorating the Feast of the Transfiguration. For the company, the date also holds an even deeper significance: it serves as a spiritual prelude to its founding anniversary on August 11. This convergence of faith and history is honored each year through special Masses held within Eternal Gardens parks.

This meaningful observance continues under the leadership of Chairman D. Edgard A Cabangon, who faithfully upholds the legacy of his father, our beloved founder, Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua.
