Before we write a psychological evaluation report for legal cases, the work starts long before the “writing” begins.
Here’s what happens behind the scenes:
1. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: what the court or counsel actually needs answered
2. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀: Affidavits, medical/psychological/psychiatric history (when available)
3. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄: Interview and testing schedules, collateral sources, and what information is needed
4. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀: Standardized and validated tools only
5.𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆: Observations, sources, and consistency across information
6. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆: what the data can and cannot support
This behind-the-scenes process is what helps ensure the report is ethical, objective, and court-appropriate.
