WHAT IS DIABETIC RETINOPATHY?

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects your eye. High blood sugar levels can result in the blockage of tiny blood vessels that supply nourishment to the retina of your eye. With the blockage cutting off blood supply, your eye attempts to grow new blood vessels which do not develop properly and can leak easily. The damaged blood vessels and abnormal new ones can cause vision loss.

KATARATA: MGA DAPAT MONG MALAMAN

Kung ikaw ay 60 taong gulang pataas at nakakaranas ng panlalabo ng paningin, maaaring mayroon ka ng katarata. Ang katarata ay kadalasang nakikita sa mga may edad, at maaaring makita ng mas maaga sa mga tao na may sakit tulad ng diabetes, o sa mga gumagamit ng corticosteroids.

Ang katarata ay ang pamumuti ng natural na lente ng ating mata. Ito ay kadalasang dala ng pag-tanda, ngunit maaari rin itong makita sa mga bata o sa mga taong nagkaroon ng trauma sa kanilang mata. Lahat tayo ay magkakaroon ng katarata ngunit kadalasan ay hindi ito nangangailan ng agarang operasyon.

Kumonsulta agad sa iyong ophthalmologist kung may panlalabo ng paningin!

PAANO NADA-DIAGNOSE ANG RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY (ROP)?

Ang mga sanggol na ipinanganak nang kulang sa buwan (premature babies) ay dumadaan sa routine screening ng ROP na ginagawa ng pediatric ophthalmologists o retina specialists gamit ang special equipment. Ang screening exam ay ginagawa mismo sa Neonatal Intensive Care Unit o sa clinic ng ophthalmologist kung na-discharge ang sanggol.

Kung ikaw ay nanganak nang kulang sa buwan, magtanong sa iyong ophthalmologist para sa karagdagang impormasyon tungkol sa pag-diagnose ng ROP.

PROLONGED SMARTPHONE USE CAN CAUSE DRY EYE

Normally, you blink your eyes every 10 seconds or so. Blinking releases a tear film that soothes and lubricates your eyes. However, when you’re looking at your smartphone screen, you don’t blink as often. Less blinking leads to drier eyes.

Talk to your ophthalmologist for more information on how to prevent smartphone-related dry eye.
