What is Dupuytren's Contracture?
It is a hand deformity that occurs when knots of tissue form under the skin of the hand, eventually creating a thick cord that can pull one or more fingers in a bent position.
Risk Factors include: men above 50 y/o, family history, smoking or to***co use, diabetes and individulas of Northern European descent.
Surgery is the most common treatment for advanced conditions.
In 2010, FDA(USA) approved the first non-surgical treatment option, called Collagenase. It is an enzyme that helps break down the cord once injected. Another condition treated with this product is Peyronie’s disease (abnormal curvature of the p***s).
