"A woman who is informed is a woman who is unafraid. This Women’s Month, we celebrate your strength and your right to a safe, dignified, and self-determined birth."

5 of 24 Buntis Serye for 3rd Trimester

As this pregnant mommies enter their 3rd trimester, they are at a critical finish line. Many people will give them advice— neighbors, relatives, even strangers. But today, through the collaboration with PopCom, MSWD, our BNS, CHTs, and HRHs, they will learn something more valuable than advice: FACTS.

Being an empowered woman means you don't just 'wait' for the baby; you decide how you want to be treated, you prepare your birth plan, and you know when to speak up if something doesn't feel right. Your health is your right, not a favor from anyone.

Maraming salamat po sa nagsama samang sektors dito sa Pagsanjan—thank you for standing with our mothers. And to our nanays—listen, ask questions, and be inspired.

FYI

If a bre.astfeeding mama doesn’t get enough nutrients, her body doesn’t “pause” milk production. It prioritizes baby. And pulls from her reserves first. 🤍

Bre/astfeeding increases calorie needs by ~450–500 calories per day. But it also increases micronutrient needs — not just food volume.

It’s not about “eating more.” It’s about eating intentionally.

A nourished mama = better recovery, better mood, better energy, better milk support.

If you’re constantly exhausted beyond normal newborn tired… it might not be “just motherhood.”

It might be your body asking for more support.

Buntis Serye III
Buntis Serye 3, specifically designed for the 3rd Trimester (Week 28 to 40+) of pregnancy. This stage is the "home stretch," where the focus shifts from growth to preparedness and safety.

The primary goal of this session is to equip pregnant women with the knowledge to recognize emergency "red flags" and prepare for a safe delivery, effectively reducing the risk of complications for both mother and baby.

1. Recognizing the "Danger Signs" or the "RED FLAGS"
To reduce morbidity (illness) and mortality (death), you must act immediately if you experience any of the following. Do not wait for your next check-up; go to the hospital right away.

Danger Sign:
⚠️Severe Headache / Blurry Vision
➡️ What might mean:
Preeclampsia (High blood pressure)

⚠️Severe Abdominal Pain
➡️ What might mean:
Preterm labor or placental issues

⚠️Fever and Chills
➡️ What might mean:
Infection (which can affect the baby)

⚠️Sudden Swelling (Face/Hands)
➡️ What might mean:
Warning sign of Preeclampsia

⚠️Decreased Baby Movement
➡️What might mean:
Fetal distress (Baby is not getting enough oxygen/nutrients)

⚠️Gush of Fluid (Water Breaking)
➡️What might mean:
Rupture of membranes; risk of infection if labor doesn't start

2. Essential Health Habits in the 3rd Trimester
☝️Monitor Fetal Kick Counts:
Choose a time when the baby is usually active. You should feel at least 10 movements (kicks, rolls, flutters) within 2 hours. If it takes longer or the baby is unusually quiet, contact your doctor.

☝️Left-Side Sleeping:
This is the safest position. It improves blood flow to the heart and the placenta, ensuring the baby gets maximum oxygen.

☝️Nutrition:
Increase your intake of Iron and Calcium. Your baby is currently "banking" iron for their first few months of life.

☝️Rest vs. Activity:
Walking is excellent for positioning the baby, but avoid heavy lifting or standing for more than an hour at a time.

3. Birth Preparedness & Survival Plan
Reducing mortality often comes down to speed of action. Have these ready by Week 36:

🚗Transport Plan: Who will drive you? What is the backup plan if they aren't available?

🩸Blood Donors: Identify 2–3 family members or friends with your blood type who can be on standby (a common precaution in many health centers).

🎒The "Buntis" Kit (Hospital Bag):

🤰For You: PhilHealth ID/Member Data Record, Prenatal Record (Pink Book/Mother's Book), clean clothes, maternity pads.

👶For Baby: Newborn clothes, diapers, receiving blankets, and items for Unang Yakap (Essential Newborn Care).

4. Understanding Labor: When is it "The Real Thing"?

❓️Distinguishing between "Braxton Hicks" (false labor) and real labor prevents unnecessary stress or, conversely, arriving too late.

✅️Real Labor: Contractions get longer, stronger, and closer together. They do not go away if you change positions or walk.

✅️Bloody Show: A brownish or blood-tinged mucus discharge is a sign your cervix is preparing for birth.

⁉️‼️Note on Preeclampsia:
This is a leading cause of maternal mortality. If you feel a "clap of thunder" headache or see "stars" or flashes of light, seek help immediately.
