Managing overstimulation from our mobile devices is a practice we need to include in our self care routine. 💛

A tip: if you are not expecting or anticipating anything important, especially during your sacred "me time" (whether that's exercising, watching Netflix, going to the spa, taking a long shower), put your phone on temporary airplane mode and see how that helps quiet the mind. 🎧

Or ditch the umbrella altogether and enjoy it like a child.🤗 Rainwater is quite healing because it is straight from nature and it may make you remember fun things you did as a child. Try it and let us know.

Anxiety manifests in different ways: binge eating, skin picking, nail biting, and hair pulling are some of them.

One helpful strategy to replace these coping mechanisms is to keep your hands and fingers busy. 👋🏻

Find a hobby that requires the use of your hands such as sketching, coloring, crotcheting, planting/gardening, food prep, painting your nails... Anything to keep your hands preoccupied. 👐🏼 These activities also help slow down your thinking and prevent you from spiraling downward.

Now you know why these activities became such a big hit during the height of the pandemic! 😉

It's frustrating when our self-care strategies don't seem to work. There are two approaches to this:

1. Turn these coping strategies into HABITS. This means sticking with the same strategy for a period of time and doing it over and over before giving up and saying it doesn't work. Or—

2. Switch it up! There is no one-size-fits-all strategy for self-care; you have to customize and create your own toolbox. Discard those that don't work, explore, practice, and keep those that do.

Why do therapists always recommend journaling as an exercise? Here are the top 3 reasons:

✅ It's a great way to teach your brain to slow down when you have anxiety.

✅ Journal prompts force you to change how you view things when you're suffering from depression.

✅ You will be able to identify your triggers and manage them better if you have mood swings.

There are many forms of journaling, but the most important part is that it should be intentional and purposeful. What we want to avoid is for it to be an echo chamber (especially if you have symptoms of depression), so consult your favorite therapist or counselor on which journaling structure might work best for you. 🤗

One of the most important life skills we need is to learn how to set and communicate our boundaries. As Filipinos, we find this extra difficult because of our cultural nuances.

But "difficult" doesn't mean you are "not allowed to" or that you "can't."

You ARE allowed to and you CAN set boundaries. 💛

Try this for starters: list down ways to say no to someone. Read it to yourself and imagine your most loved person saying those to you. Would you understand them or find them offensive?
