What to do when broken glass?
After you have prepared all the necessary tools, please handle broken glass carefully and skillfully according to each specific instructions below.
Step 1: Carefully handle broken glass to protect yourself
How do you handle broken glass or glassware? First, protect yourself by wearing a pair of thick rubber gloves. In addition, you should wear a suitable pair of shoes to clean up to help prevent you from accidentally stepping on the glass. Keep small children and animals away from broken glass until you've finished cleaning up. First, protect yourself by wearing a pair of thick rubber gloves. If small children or animals are in the room, close to the broken glass area, you should check it very carefully. It is important to make sure that the child or pet is not injured and that no glass shards get caught in the pet's fur or clothing.
Step 2: Pick up the piece of glass carefully
This is an extremely important step in dealing with broken glass. You take a newspaper or a paper box to hold your glasses. If you're using newspaper, open them up and fold them to make them thicker. If you're using a box, you'll need to check around the box to make sure there aren't any gaps where broken glass could pass through.
You carefully pick up the pieces of glass and place them on top of the newspaper or in the box. Check floors throughout the room, and further away in case glass breaks near doors or splashes around.
Make sure you have checked below the appliances, furniture such as tables, chairs, cabinets etc. If you're in the kitchen, open the oven and refrigerator doors to check. Also check underneath as there may be shards of glass in the underside of those devices.
Step 3: Vacuum the area where broken glass has just been treated
Next, use the vacuum cleaner to re-clean the entire room. You can use a paper towel to wipe up the spilled liquid first (note: wear gloves when doing this). Never use the broom or the attachment that comes with the vacuum cleaner as small debris can get caught and carry them back to the floor the next time you use them.
Step 4: Clean the broken glass location
Even a powerful vacuum cleaner can leave behind small debris and glass dust. So use a piece of bread or a damp paper towel to wipe the entire broken glass area. The broken glass will stick to the damp cloth and the floor will be thoroughly cleaned.
Step 5: Throw away the broken glass
Carefully wrap the glasses (and the tissue/bread used in step 4) in newspaper or close the lid of the carton carefully. Seal them up. Put everything in a plastic bag with the rubber gloves you just used and tie the bag tightly. Make sure you use a sturdy garbage bag. Now you can safely put them in the household trash.
Step 6: Clean up spills
After dealing with broken glass, even though you have wiped it through, there are some liquids such as orange juice, milk, etc., that need to be cleaned properly to ensure that no sticky residue is left on the floor.
If you are dealing with a hard surface, spray some all-purpose cleaner on the surface and wipe it off with a damp cloth.
For carpet or upholstery stain removal, mix a solution of water and carpet cleaner (as detailed on the product packaging). Dab the solution on the stain, wipe it with clean water and pat dry. It's best to use disposable paper towels to prevent any pieces of glass dust from getting trapped.
