CHURCH NEWS | Church Mourns Passing of Missionary-Surgeon Sister Eva Fidela Maamo, 1997 Magsaysay Laureate

The Church joins the nation in mourning the passing of Sister Eva Fidela Maamo, a devoted religious sister, surgeon, and 1997 Ramon Magsaysay Award laureate, who dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor.

Through her foundation, she brought healing, dignity, and hope to countless marginalized communities across the Philippines, offering free medical care, shelter, and livelihood opportunities. Small in stature but immense in spirit, Sr. Eva’s life stands as a powerful witness to Gospel compassion lived out in action.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐒𝐫. 𝐄𝐯𝐚.🕊

It is with heavy hearts that we share in the grief of losing our beloved mentor and esteemed founder of Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Sister Eva Maamo.

As a woman of faith and a skilled surgeon, she embodied the rare and remarkable union of spiritual devotion and medical excellence. She chose to place her extraordinary gifts at the service of the most marginalized — those who had nowhere else to turn — and in doing so, she built more than a hospital. She built a home of hope.

Her pioneering spirit laid the very foundation upon which Our Lady of Peace Craniofacial Center was established, opening doors for children and families who desperately needed care and compassion in OLPH. Her legacy is written not only in the walls of this institution, but in every life that has been touched, healed, and uplifted through its mission.

We extend our sincerest condolences to all who knew and loved her. As we mourn, we also celebrate a life extraordinarily lived — one of purpose, sacrifice, and boundless mercy.

Her work will not end with her passing. It will live on in every smile restored, every patient served, and every act of kindness carried out in her honor.

In deepest sympathy and lasting admiration,

Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc.
