Philippine Red Cross Joins the Nation in Observing International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month 2025

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the nation and the global humanitarian community in observing International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month this August 2025, reaffirming its commitment to uphold the protection of human dignity and to promote respect for the rules of war.

International Humanitarian Law, also known as the Law of Armed Conflict, is a set of international rules that seeks to limit the effects of armed conflict—protecting those who are not, or no longer, participating in hostilities and restricting the means and methods of warfare. In the Philippines, August has been declared IHL Month under Executive Order No. 134, s. 1999.

As an auxiliary to the government in the humanitarian field and a long-standing advocate of humanitarian principles, the Philippine Red Cross continues to champion the dissemination and application of IHL. Through educational campaigns, partnerships, and field-level humanitarian work, PRC supports efforts to:

• Promote understanding and compliance with IHL,
• Protect civilians and humanitarian workers,
• Foster a culture of humanity even in times of conflict.

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon emphasized the importance of IHL in today’s world:

“Even in the midst of war, there must be respect for human life. International Humanitarian Law reminds us that there are lines that must not be crossed. The Philippine Red Cross will always be on the side of humanity—bringing help to the vulnerable, speaking out for the voiceless, and upholding the principles that make us human.”

Throughout August, PRC will conduct awareness campaigns, capacity-building sessions, and forums with key stakeholders to deepen public understanding of IHL and its relevance in conflict and disaster settings.

As IHL Month is commemorated, the Philippine Red Cross encourages all Filipinos to take part in promoting the universal values of protection, neutrality, and compassion—because even wars have rules.

🫀🚨 CPR CARAVAN 2025 | PASAY CITY
📍 Schools Division Office – Pasay City
🗓️ August 1, 2025
Hatid ng Philippine Red Cross – Pasay City Chapter ang kaalaman na kayang magligtas ng buhay sa pagpapatuloy ng CPR Caravan 2025, kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng CPR Day!
Sa isinagawang hands-only CPR training sa Schools Division Office ng Pasay, 53 participants (22 lalaki at 31 babae) mula sa sektor ng edukasyon ang nakiisa.
🎓 Mahalaga ang kaalaman sa CPR sa loob ng paaralan. Bilang mga g**o at pangalawang magulang, dapat ay handa rin silang tumugon sa anumang medical emergency. Ang isang tamang hakbang, sa tamang oras, ay maaaring makapagsalba ng buhay ng isang estudyante, kapwa g**o, o kasamahan sa komunidad.
Ang CPR Caravan ay patuloy na umiikot sa buong bansa para turuan ang mga Pilipino ng lifesaving skills—dahil sa bawat kamay na marunong ng CPR, may pusong handang tumulong.
