Honoring the Heart of Healthcare: Our Nurses

In celebration of International Nurses Week, the Air Force General Hospital (AFGH) proudly joins the global community in recognizing the invaluable service, compassion, and dedication of our nurses. Through a simple yet meaningful program, we gathered to honor the men and women whose quiet strength and unwavering commitment continue to make a difference in every life they touch.

The activity was presided over by Colonel Darlene D Flores NC (MNSA), Chief Nurse, Air Force, together with Colonel Jeanette S Rivarez NC (GSC), Chief, Nursing Service of AFGH, under the guidance of Colonel Jonathan B Rico MC (GSC), Commanding Officer, AFGH. More than a ceremonial event, the gathering became a heartfelt expression of gratitude—highlighting leadership’s continued commitment not only to patient care but also to the welfare and well-being of our healthcare personnel.

In her message, Colonel Flores emphasized the importance of unity, reminding everyone to continue working as one, to keep doing, to keep caring, and to keep showing up with the same dedication each day. She commended the Nursing Service for their steadfast efforts in delivering quality healthcare and for ensuring the safety and comfort of every patient entrusted to their care.

The program served as a moment of reflection—honoring the silent sacrifices, the long hours, and the compassion that define the nursing profession. It was a reminder that beyond every procedure and protocol lies a human connection that only nurses can uniquely provide.

As we celebrate our nurses, we hold close this truth:
“Nurses are the heart of healthcare—where compassion meets courage, and care becomes healing.”

In closing, AFGH extends its deepest appreciation to all our nurses. Your dedication inspires, your service uplifts, and your compassion heals more than words can express. Today and always, we honor you—not only for what you do, but for who you are.

AFGH Quote of the Week

In the midst of our daily responsibilities and commitments, it is important to remember that not everything is within our control. Learning to let go of the things we cannot change allows us to find peace, clarity, and strength to move forward. Taking a moment to pause is not a sign of weakness—it is an act of self-awareness. It gives us the opportunity to reflect, realign our priorities, and care for ourselves so we can continue to care for others more effectively.

At Air Force General Hospital, we are reminded that while we dedicate ourselves to service, we must also honor our own well-being. It is okay to slow down, to breathe, and to give yourself the time you need.
