Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) poses a significant global health burden, with a global prevalence estimated at 7.74 million individuals as of 2021 worldwide, with the highest prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa, India, the Middle East. The disease is characterized by chronic hemolytic anemia, vaso-occlusive crises, and progressive organ damage, leading to reduced quality of life and premature mortality. Despite its severity, SCD remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in many regions due to limited access to newborn screening, genetic testing, and comprehensive care. Early and accurate diagnosis is critical, as timely interventions can significantly reduce morbidity and improve long-term outcomes. Our webinar will highlight the urgent need for expanded screening programs, increased disease awareness, and equitable access to advanced diagnostics and therapies.
