Fully vaccinated! 💉

The Covid 19 pandemic has caused a lot of changes in our lives. Many of us lost a loved one, a co-worker, a friend, or a neighbor. We longed for a solution. A ray of light. Then the vaccine finally arrived... but some are unsure... some are prejudicial ... many are desperate.

This is my point of view.

COVID-19 vaccine is safe. It is effective. It has been tested on a diverse number of people. And no one manufacturer’s vaccine is better than the other.

Due to the circus of misinformation, a big percentage of Filipinos still say they don’t want to get vaccinated or say that they only want to get vaccinated by a specific vaccine. This is very unfortunate.

All currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines are 100% effective in preventing hospitalization and death.

Yes, It is a normal reaction to be curious or even apprehensive about something new.
Many try the tactic of “lets wait and see” on how something new or novel affects other people before they try it out themselves. That is understandable but these vaccines didn’t appear overnight. Years of research went into developing the mechanism by which these vaccines work .

Yes, the drug development was fast, but it wasn’t hasty. No steps were omitted, instead many of the steps required to develop and test a vaccine occurred concurrently. This allowed drug makers to get these vaccines ready in less than 12months.

A misconception persists that one vaccine is in some way superior or inferior than the other. The fact is , there is no “best” vaccine. The best vaccine is the one you can get.

The roll-out of vaccination was done worldwide and what we have seen so far is that the dangers of a COVID-19 infection far outweigh the risk of vaccine side effects. This means that the vaccine is safe, that it is effective and that it could bring the world back to normalcy.

After a tragic year of painful deaths, the hope of a fully vaccinated public is now possible. This is all up to us now! So be informed and Get Vaccinated!

As the malls, schools, beach and other business establishments are re-opening, we start to cope with the new normal...

Nonetheless the new normal may be as confusing to us now as it was during the lockdown last March. So how do we cope with the new normal when “normal” is still being redefined?

However jarring the past few months have been with covid-19 and a few other societal stressors, we have to refocus and stay hopeful.

Yes, the doors to the normal state haven’t flung open entirely... with the second wave of the virus looming... and the sluggish economic recovery... and the many readjustments... we try our best and look through the light at the end of the tunnel.

Aside from focusing on the foundations of a good mental and physical health which are enough sleep, regular exercise and proper nutrition... Research has shown that the following tips may be helpful:

1. Stick to a schedule
2. Get some sunshine
3. Be compassionate and clear about your needs but be respectful of other peoples boundaries
4. Move More and watch less

Being a Physician in the forefront of this pandemic, is both a challenging and rewarding role.

Training in the AFP Reserve Force in the midst of this COVID 19 is but another hurdle, an almost impossible task to fulfill.

As I juggled AFP training, official work functions, doing clinics and hospital rounds, I was exhausted but the desire to help pushed me to put one step in front of the other.

Finally... I successfully finished the training... with bonus!

Graduated TOP 9 of the class MOT-07-2020 ❤️

I became a physician because it is challenging, rewarding, evolving and noble. ❤️

But my country needs me, calling me yet again for another mission. 💪🏼

So I sometimes hang my white coat and put on my army camouflage.

I am proud to wear both my white coat and military uniform and each day I strive to live up to the standards and values that each represent! 🩺 🇵🇭

I am Dr Mae - AFP Reserve Command

In the midst of this pandemic and chaos, I still found random acts of kindness from my patients. Despite their sickness, they never fail to ask me if I have Eaten during clinics , or they ask me how I am doing as a frontliner, if I get enough rest. This is So touching! ❤️🥰

It is ironic how the physical distance that COVID 19 has imposed upon us brought me closer to my patients. Many talk about how they get excited when they propagate their plants or how they had a successful barter. This type of conversations lifts me up amidst the difficulties.

Yes this virus is contagious... but so is HOPE!!

And the hope and humanity that I have witnessed for the past few months has been awe inspiring! ❤️

We understand the fear and uncertainties of coming into the clinic for health care when people have been told to stay home as much as possible.

However it is IMPORTANT to understand that getting the necessary treatment and taking care of your heath can’t wait.

We have made enhancements and operational changes in the clinic and diagnostic center to provide the highest quality health care in a safe environment.

We have taken the following precautions to protect our patients and staff:

-universal masking of all patients, staff and companions
-temperature scanning and enhanced screening protocol at the triage area
-enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of all areas
-social distancing in waiting rooms and common areas
-scheduled appointment time
