A few moments from the Regional Advanced Endoscopic Skull Base Masterclass this April.

What stood out most wasn’t just the techniques or the cases but the shared process of learning. From focused discussions at the table, to hands-on dissection, to exchanging perspectives across specialties, these are the spaces where growth really happens.

There’s something humbling about being both teacher and student in the same room. Each interaction adds nuance not just to how we operate, but how we think, decide, and approach complexity.

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute, and even more for the chance to learn alongside colleagues from all over Asia who continue to elevate the field.

Peripheral nerve surgery is one of the areas we’re trained to manage in neurosurgery. As neurosurgeons, we take care of conditions involving the nervous system — brain, spine, and peripheral nerves — and even in these smaller nerve spaces, careful technique and attention to detail really matter.

Recently performed surgery for a patient with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel release is a procedure where we make a small incision at the palm and divide the tight ligament pressing on the median nerve, creating more space and relieving numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in the hand. It’s always rewarding to see patients regain hand function after these procedures.

We recently integrated the Guenter Bissinger Medizintechnik GmbH Endoscopic “Chopsticks” instrument system by Dr. Froelich into our skull base workflow and utilized it in an endoscopic endonasal pituitary surgery.

The system’s design, which allows for control of the endoscope and suction with one hand, was particularly beneficial in maintaining stability and visualization within the narrow sellar corridor. This feature facilitated a smoother operative flow and enhanced ergonomic handling during the delicate phases of the procedure.

Thank you Bissinger team for creating instruments that meet the practical demands of modern endoscopic skull base surgery. We are eager to continue integrating this system into our practice as we advance minimally invasive pituitary and skull base surgery in the Philippines.

Inviting colleagues and friends to the Philippine Skull Base Masterclass: Advanced Open and Endoscopic Dissection Course to be held at The Medical City (Manila, Philippines).

This course is the official Pre-Congress Course of AACNS 2026 (18th Asian Australasian Congress of Neurological Surgeons), designed to deliver high-yield cadaveric skull base training integrating both advanced open microsurgical approaches and endoscopic skull base techniques, supporting education and collaboration across the ASEAN–Australasian region.
