☀️HEAT STROKE is a life-threatening medical emergency. It's not "just the heat"—it's a critical moment where your body loses the ability to cool itself.
When temperatures soar and humidity is high, knowing the signs can save a life.
👇 WHAT IT IS:
Heat stroke is the most severe form of heat injury, occurring when the body's core temperature rises rapidly to dangerous levels (104°F/40°C or higher). It can quickly damage your brain, heart, kidneys, and muscles.
🛡️ HOW TO PREVENT IT (Best Prevention):
HYDRATION IS KEY: Drink plenty of water and electrolyte drinks, even if you don't feel thirsty.
STAY COOL: Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Use fans, air conditioning, or cool showers.
AVOID THE PEAK: Stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
ACCLIMATE: Gradually increase time outdoors over several days.
KNOW YOUR RISK: Older adults, young children, and those with chronic medical conditions are more vulnerable.
🚨 IF IT HAPPENS (What To Do):
This is not a "wait and see" situation. If you or someone you're with shows these symptoms:
CALL 911 (or local emergency number) IMMEDIATELY.
MOVE to a cool place and find shade or air conditioning.
COOL THE BODY as quickly as possible.
Place ice packs under the arms, on the neck, and in the groin.
Mist with water and use a fan to create a breeze.
Dampen their clothing.
DO NOT give them anything to drink if they are unconscious.
Save this checklist. Share it with your family. Tag a friend who needs to stay cool.
